I have been working at Flagstaff Medical Center full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

    Great staff work here
    Beautiful Town

    Cons

Way too many interim folks at Senior Management Level
Senior Management can't get their story straight, or has too many different lies going that they can't remember who they told what.
Human Resources in pure chaos. Can't get an answer out of them to save your life. Director of Comp and Benefits doesn't answer their phone and voice mailbox is full.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Focus on what matters
Get some focus, rather than being the flavor of the month
Fresh lipstick on a pig, is still a pig
Millions being wasted on "branding" for a company that has market share in the 80's

    Doesn't Recommend
    Negative Outlook
    Disapproves of CEO

I worked at Flagstaff Medical Center full-time (less than an year)

    Pros

Flagstaff has better weather than Phoenix in the summertime.
Compensation is good for the first year.

    Cons

Very political place to work. Doesn't matter whether or not you do the right thing to help patients; what matters most is pleasing your managers.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

They don't really care, so why should I say anything? They will find some way to silence any dissent and portray you as a malcontent, no matter what your training and experience level is.

I have been working at Flagstaff Medical Center part-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Good people in all the departments, recent house cleaning of upper management although it could use more. 401k, dental, eye offered. Minimum wage wage just changed to 12 dollars per hour which is good.

    Cons

Management has a vision and it does not include retention for employees. Retirement for long term employees is under discussion, Pay is decent to start but does not have a competitive top of pay rate. Absolutely no recognition for a job well done. I do remember when they would hand out a coffee coupon or a movie ticket when you went above and beyond, that no longer happens. Lots of distension between management and employees and upper management is not seeing that.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Recognize your strong employees, continue to clean out the useless upper management. Do right for your long term employees in terms of retirement. Take away the huge bonus for your management when a department meets their goals and instead give it to the employees that got you that good rating.

I worked at Flagstaff Medical Center full-time

    Pros

Flagstaff is a beautiful place to live and the Hospital is top notch, everyone there is professional and friendly. Defiantly would recommend it to anyone looking for a career in the medical field.

    Cons

Flagstaff Medical Center doesn't have much of a culture to speak of, while all the people get along with one another it seems like each section is responsible for looking out for itself over the others.

I have been working at Flagstaff Medical Center full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Evidence based practice, new equipment, tons of education, always pushing employees to be better. Offers financial incentives for great patient care.

    Cons

Short staff constantly, traveler's are nearly half the staff. Constant in-services and meetings which burn out employees. Bullying by physicians and fellow staff nurses at times. Low morale and huge disconnect between staff and management.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Continue to work on environment especially in nursing departments. Make this hospital the standard for mutual respect and collaboration. Keep in mind that employees have a life outside of work and don't want to be there all the time.

I have been working at Flagstaff Medical Center

    Pros

It is in a beautiful location and has a good range of specialties which makes for interesting practice. Generally the practitioners are top notch and kind.

    Cons

However the management doesnt cut it. It seems as if most of the people making the desicions are so far removed from the outcomes and actual reality that is makes for a bad place to work.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I would have standards and expectations that you intend to follow-up on, for example attendance and mojor critical errors. Currently these items aren't followed or adhered to which is bad for moral and very bad for patient safety
