I have been working at Flatiron Constructors full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Job security, better than no job. Plenty of work to do so you do keep busy. Flatiron has a lot of growth in the future. Benefits and pay over all are good.

    Cons

Everybody talks about referring to the corporate policies and procedures. Unfortunately, those procedures/policies are all out-dated or hard to find. Longer termed employees love to say find someone else to help you as that isn't their job. Thought this was a company that wanted to move forward, not still work in the 1990's. Good Luck!

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get your act together and realize where the real problems are. Don't have so many different ways of doing things, keep it centralized and stick with it.

I worked at Flatiron Constructors full-time

    Pros

Give people responsibility right off the bat
    Opportunity for advancement
    Interesting projects

    Cons

    Rarely have time off work
Lots of EITs, not that many people with experience (on this project anyways)
    Disorganized
Unrealistically high expectations for what is to be accomplished by employees - they seem to be trying to save money by not hiring enough staff

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Hire enough staff so that you don't have to overwork employees

I worked at Flatiron Constructors full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Great experience, as you will have a chance to take on tasks normally reserved for senior staff (because Flatiron can't afford senior staff).

    Cons

    1) management is poor and disorganized, project scopes are poorly identified
    2) often no hourly pay - you're paid a weekly rate, assumed and encouraged to work unpaid OT (not paid at all, not even as straight time), promised bonuses that are hardly worth all the "volunteering"
    3) no work-life balance, lots of break-ups/divorces
    4) company's motto is "fast and cheap", people are overworked and angry, mistakes are constantly needing to be fixed

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Provide financial incentive to work 12 hr days with no weekends

I have been working at Flatiron Constructors

    Pros

Some groups get to work on technically challenging projects. Some groups get to work on technically challenging projects. Some groups get to work on technically challenging projects.

    Cons

No work life balance. 60-70 hours every week with no over time pay and measly bonus ($500). A million rules and regulations and no uniformity from job site to job site.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Pay people more. If they work over 40 hours pay them for those hours. Give more vacation and stop trying to be kiewit.
