I worked at FleishmanHillard as an intern (more than an year)

    Pros

I learned more in one semester of interning there than I did all 4-5 years in college. It is the testing and proving grounds. Great resume builder. Future interviewer always asked "whoa, you interned there for 2 years?" because everyone know how tough and demanding the job was.

    Cons

Everyone's so busy, you're left to fend for yourself. Don't make evening plans because you'll usually have to stay late. Some of the projects were tedious and worthless in your portfolio. You have to be proactive if you want to do portfolio level work.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Take more time to build and foster young talent. You never now how many lives your be changing and inspiring.

I worked at FleishmanHillard as an intern (less than an year)

    Pros

Got to work on some big name clients. Having this company on your resume is said to be advantageous if you're in the PR world.

There were some perks. Free coffee everyday. Fresh fruit provided one day of the week and a snack another day. Since it was Fall, we had Halloween and Christmas parties and a choice of a free turkey or cheesecake on Thanksgiving.

    Cons

    The Creative floor:
Although people on the creative floor were generally easy to get along with and helpful, I was constantly talked down to by a creative director. Many people were unhappy due to politics on this floor. The interns were grouped into separate "Portfolio Groups" and these groups were not organized well. Some interns had a lot of work and didn't have any free time whereas others had no work given to them for long periods of time (sometimes even for days on end). Work given to creative directors also seemed inconsistent, some were busy most of the time whereas others had ample time for socialization.

    FH Saint Louis in general:
Hierarchy seems to take a lot of precedence at FH, and some employees in upper positions were visibly rude. It was a bit like high school all over again where you had to be nice to your bullies if you wanted to fit in. I also noticed a lack of diversity which was surprising considering it's in Saint Louis.

I worked at FleishmanHillard full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Worked with very talented colleagues. Employees at FH have the opportunity to work with great clients and produce world-class programs.

    Cons

Too many people in management without true people management skills. The company is very traditional, doing many things because they've always done them that way and when change is made, it's not meaningful or the energy is directed at things that don't really make much impact in the overall scope. Also, in some roles true advancement opportunities are hard to come by or non-existent.

I worked at FleishmanHillard as an intern (less than an year)

    Pros

My time at FH was overall a good learning experience. As a creative intern, I was able to work on projects for big corporate clients and gain experience with the technical side of sharing creative assets. I worked with teams and senior-level creatives to cultivate design solutions while adhering to strict brand standard guidelines, an important skill that I will apply to jobs for the rest of my career. FH also had fun extras for interns including information sessions on skill sets and aspects of FH, weekly snacks, monthly birthday celebrations, and other random rewards.

    Cons

At times I felt like a design secretary. This is not a place for someone who is really looking to grow creatively. They want you to do the bare minimum, bill the maximum, and move on. No time to fuss with details or explore solutions. Art directors spoke negatively of each other behind backs and couldn't agree on creative direction. My creative intern coordinator did not even have a final meeting with me as my internship ended.
