Stable mid-sized company that stays on a prudent plan and invests in its employees

    Software (Current Employee)

ProsMost products have strong market share. The office atmosphere and teammates are very friendly. Stable corporate income gives a feeling of security. Performance reviews are fair, transparent, and well-managed. Managers trust and respect their reports, flexible schedules are possible, insane hours are not expected, and vacation is generous with enough seniority. Professionals do not abuse this flexibility, probably due to good "team spirit."

ConsNew projects are sometimes under-allocated resources. Engineering is a bit heavy on process over action and is definitely risk-averse. Employees are, on average, less than "very satisfied" with their opportunities for growth and development.

    High stress, long hours

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

ProsDecent compensation, good benefits, well-known products. Good investments in technology and sales.

ConsManagers with equity shares make ruthless decisions for their personal benefit. Laid off 10% of employees so those remaining can get their bonuses; but then they're expected to pickup the slack, even though they're already over-burdened. Moved to "open office" concept so senior management can keep tabs on who's in the office. Company provides laptop and iPhone, but then expect you to be available even on vacation. Work from home policy not consistently applied. Middle managers are pawns of senior management, often employing negative motivational techniques and managing by fear and intimidation.

Advice to Senior ManagementLearn to trust your employees; they're more dedicated than you think, but employee satisfaction is on the decline. Creating a more positive environment by treating employees with respect (positive motivation) will benefit all.

Good place to work, but no place for advancement.

Staff Software Engineer (Former Employee) San Jose, CA

ProsFriendly culture, reasonable hours, clean environment.

ConsTotal lack of communication between groups. Sales dominates all other departments. No support for learning new things.

Advice to Senior ManagementAppreciate your people. Let them know you value them by giving them good tools, good training, and positive feedback.

    On a downward slide?

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

    Pros- Good products, positioned well.
    - Company tries to keep software modern, nothing outdated

Cons- The company moved from superb, spacious and quiet offices to subpar, very crowded and a noisy environment. It has wrecked the positive, cooperative and productive work culture. It looks like it was done to save money.
    - Just laid-off about 10% of the staff, despite making plenty of profit.

Advice to Senior ManagementEmployees are smarter than you think. The platitude laden speeches made after the layoffs fooled no one.
The money-grabbing office move will cost the company in the long run as your attempts to attract top talent will cost you more.

OK job with no real challenges

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

ProsThe job was low stress, the office amenities were nice, the health benefits were pretty generous.

ConsThe growth potential was extremely low, I had 8 different managers over 3 years, and the innovation in the software products seemed mediocre.

can be great is in the right team.

    Director of Sales (Former Employee)

ProsLots of talented and smart people that want growth and success.

ConsVery political and if you are in a team that has a poor director, you will be left in the dark about anything important.

Advice to Senior ManagementListen to the "little people" that do the day to day.

People are great. Work hard, play less hard type of environment.

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsFlexible with working from home when/if needed. Management approves of training, but training must be seeked out on your own. Depending on what department, the people are amazing. You enjoy coming to work everyday because of the people.

    ConsRoom for growth is limited.
    Older, more traditional work atmosphere.
Slower paced, not much drive for innovation.
Pays less than average of its industry.

Advice to Senior ManagementAllow more creative thinking. Risk taking.

Huge growth potential for the both the company and the employees

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsHighly motivated employee base and executive team. Huge opportunities for career growth. Flexera software is a company with amazing products that Software Vendors and Enterprises really need. The company is growing rapidly and cares about its employees personal and professional success.

ConsBrand recognition: the Market isn't as familiar with our name, Flexera Software. However thanks to the marketing organization and the sales team, that's changing rapidly.

Advice to Senior ManagementKeep doing what you are doing! The executive team is extremely accessible and motivational. Clear goals are set and are appreciated by all of the employees.

One of the best kept secrets in the software industry and definitely Chicago

    Sales (Current Employee) Chicago, IL

Pros* Number 1 share leader in every market it serves
    * Extremely sales friendly culture (uncapped earnings, great PClub trips, great value prop, etc.)
    * Great culture and long tenured employees (many have 15+ years)
    * Very profitable and stable environment.
    * Growing organically and by acquisition.

    Cons* No equity available
    * No where to hide. A true meritocracy that is focused on results which may not appeal to everyone.

Advice to Senior ManagementGet the message out more. You have a great story but not enough people know about you!

    – I'm optimistic about the outlook for this company
