Ok place.. would not recommend Finance Org AT ALL.

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)
Jacksonville, FL

I worked at Florida Blue full-time for more than 5 years

ProsGreat employee wide perks (some manager based)
Great campus facility (gym, cafeterias)
Time off was middle of the range but good
Opportunities to move up are there
Pay is middle of the road.

ConsI want to preface this by saying I worked at Blue for a LONG time and while it was a great place once I started 7+ years ago, I left when I worked in an area where I was truly overworked / unappreciated / underpaid. I am by no means disgruntled it is in most areas a great place to work and offers you a good work life balance and good co-workers.

Too many decisions are given to (often inept) managers and senior (department heads), this being work life balance , comp time etc.. so if the company touts we offer flex work weeks etc, that decision is not on whole its done via departments. Often times the company would send mass emails stating this and the CFO / Finance group would then send an email reminding you that they don't have that policy.

I would avoid the Finance group like the plague, some good places to work within but very few out of the whole org. It feels like a finance group from the 80's that never grew up / with the times.

Often times I would end up in departments with managers who I would think by virtue of just being the last one standing or just been there forever would be managing the group. These are people who determined your bonus + pay bump , and often had very very poor managing skills.

Benefits are very poor compared to what they used to be.. I want to stress this again Health benefits are poor.

Advice to Senior ManagementLook at your departments and their employee survey if finance is consistently ranking poor (and it did) there needs to be a wholesale change in which the group is managed.

What happened to rewarding great employees?

Systems Analyst II (Current Employee)
Jacksonville, FL

I have been working at Florida Blue full-time for more than 10 years

ProsThe majority of people who work there are dedicated and want to do a good job for the most part.

ConsNew management does not value the employees. I Wish I could say this is a company you could start and finish your career at but the now current management has made it clear that they do not value loyalty or employee opinions. They would rather outsourcing than invest in current employees.

Advice to Senior ManagementKeep your resumes updated.

Downhill Slide

Middle Management (Former Employee)
Jacksonville, FL

I worked at Florida Blue full-time for more than 8 years

ProsFree parking. Refrigerator on every floor.

ConsThe company has a pattern of pushing people over 50 out the door. While the millenials are playing Farmville and Candy Crush at their desks, the tenured employees are doubled-loaded.

Advice to Senior ManagementBenefits cut more and more with each passing year. Poor health insurance offering for health insurance company employees.

How many employees have been pushed out when the new annual review ratings were instituted? I would be interested to see the population details on who was graded sub-standard.

Project Management

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

I worked at Florida Blue full-time for more than 5 years

ProsGood pay, bonus, vacation. Mostly a friendly campus.

ConsToxic environment. Older or long term managers should be removed from positions. No innovation, politics are high.

Advice to Senior ManagementRemoved all long-term employees who are not forward thinking, innovative, collaborative managers. CEO should stop looking for photo ops with the community and focus on the toxic internal issues.

Hit 50 and you are toast

Director (Current Employee)
Jacksonville, FL

I have been working at Florida Blue full-time for more than 10 years

ProsBig, yet not too big

ConsToo many chiefs who are clueless and too many overpriced contractors.

Advice to Senior ManagementGet mental help now although the poor benefits probably prevent getting the help really required. If you have never worked at WellPoint, then you do not matter.
