Pros
Flexibility
Stable
Employee Oriented Organization
Good place to work
Highly recognized organization within the community.
Cons
Limited room for career growth
Advice to Senior Management
Really make your open door policy an "open" door policy that is true and real.
Pros
Good opportunities.
Nice people to work with.
Overall organization is a great place.
Cons
Some teams including their higher management can be very shallow, disrespectful and bullies. There are teams where people are happy and have good senior management. Watch out which team you get into.
Advice to Senior Management
Check back on all feedback - good and bad from management / employees. Undeserving people are getting promoted or positioned as best candidates due to nepotism and those really doing the work are getting sidelined.
Pros
The compay has great growth potiental and is extremely fair. I helped a freind get hired, (he got hired on his own merit) he likes the job as well. The company is solid and the new CEO seems pretty up with the times, he even has a blog. I would recommend to get your pay negotiated up front, the ranges for pay vary.
Cons
Sharing of information, lots of changes, without much information getting down to the "regular" employee like the new org chart, most are in the dark.
Advice to Senior Management
Please share information, it will help us not only trust but bond and help even more than we do. Just want to be in the loop.
Pat Geraghty is too new to rate, but he does seem good so far but I will skip rating only because its too soon.
Pros
Very nice employer really good structure, well paid, flexible and full of opportunities team of management know what their doing and most of all are good at what their doing, the equipment is really fit sharp
Cons
cannot evoluate fast in the company, dont hire that much, old managment technique really stuck in their point of vue, far from residential areas
Pros
Friendly people, nice big campus
Cons
Everything was a FIRE and considered a short fuse
Advice to Senior Management
Ask questions about the staff you are about to lead.
Pros
Open communication by senior leaders. Collaborative. Opportunities for growth. Large organization with access to phenomenal resources. Exciting time to work in the healthcare industry. Strong leadership at the helm.
Cons
Slow. Decision by committee. Difficult to navigate the organizational structure.
Pros
Many opportunities for career growth. Compensation is very competitive. Company is committed to health and personal wellness. New CEO is making very positive changes to corporate culture. Employees are valued. Company is actively involved in the community.
Cons
Some areas of the company are bogged down in inefficient processes. Information Technology area is bloated and tends to want to drive the business.
Pros
Good starting wage and 3-4% raises per year, good benefits(health, life, dental, vision, 401k, hsa and fsa accounts) and perks (cafes and stores on campus)
Cons
I felt bad for some of the patients...the company was using any idea they could come up with to prevent paying for big $ treatments...also, you can get pigeonholed very easily into one department and stagnate there for years.
Also, if you are a smoker, BCBSF does not allow smoking anywhere on its property. It's a hike to the front gate to grab a cigarette, which is inconvenient during a 15 min break.
Advice to Senior Management
Don't use your employees as guinea pigs for your next cost-cutting measure. ( I am referring to high deductible plans.) We don't appreciate it any more than your customers do.
Pros
They give you money in exchange for work, that's about it.
Cons
You will have no life outside of work
Management has been around for 40 years and will be dying at their desks
the pay is horribly low as compared with the industry
Nepotism is rampant, muti generational. Dont expect to be hired or promoted unless your grandparents/parents/cousins work here.
For an insurance company, the insurance isn't that good.
Poor benefits
Advice to Senior Management
You have a ton of cash to spend. Try spending on your staff, promoting folks, fostering a culture of kindness instead of backstabbing.
For gods sake update the office. It's pathetic and grey. Really? Folding tables for conference tables?
Pros
work/family balance; focus on health and wellness; great benefits; flexible; opportunities for growth;, 401, PTO, Work from home, big company
Cons
BCBSF is a corporate company, so with any companies with this, it is always political. You have to speak the right language and know the right people to climb.
Advice to Senior Management
Offer your employees more opportunties for development and growth. Sometimes it is too political and leadership is not focused on the talent of their employees.
