Started out ok but started going downhill after health care reform changes really kicked in.

I worked at Florida Blue full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Incredible relocation package if you're moving to Jacksonville, time-off starts at 18 days not including sick days). A great main campus with an exercise gym (minimal fee), on-site clinic, and many intramural sport opportunities. Semi-annual awards events seemed to improve morale and recognize outstanding efforts. For me, I had a great close-knit team and a wonderful boss.

    Cons

After March or April 2014 things really seemed to get more stressful - lots more emphasis on performance and unrealistic expectations. The focus became much more about saving the company money than on anything else. The realities of health care reform meant that Florida Blue had to start getting really lean.

    Pros

Flexibility with time. I came early and left early. I also worked from home part-time. It was very nice to have those benefits.

    Cons

Not enough work to go around. I was bored a lot.

I have been working at Florida Blue full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Currently still the largest health plan in the state. Beautiful facility, providing potential opportunity to exercise away the stress.

    Cons

Out of touch leadership, favoritism, no regards for staff. It's a who you know vs. what you know company. Tell management what they want to hear not what they need to hear culture.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

If you truly want to turn organization around vs doing window dressing, you might want to do a little of "under cover boss" to understand the cut throat culture the organization is promoting. By the way, staffing the Values Council with the very people that don't have a clue, is probably a bad idea and comes off as window dressing.

    Pros

Nice PTO policy, but you wind up working on your vacation anyway.

    Cons

Frat Boys and Mean Girls run this place. It is shameful the way I have seen tenured employees marginalized and discriminated against. Ageism in practice.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Management does not listen to feedback or ignores the feedback solicited. A futile endeavor.

I have been working at Florida Blue

    Pros

The work facility is very nice, with an on-site YMCA, an on-site Health Clinic, two large cafeterias, intramural sports center and parking garage.

    Cons

Employee morale is very poor. Politicking and back stabbing is out of control. The employees have lost their faith in Sr. leadership. The company is selling off subsidiaries left and right. They have made it known that massive budget cuts will be required for next year and that this will result in a large amount of layoffs/terminations. The future of this company is dim.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The CEO (an Obama supporter and $ contributor) would rather be in Washington playing 'politician', than actually running the business. Really good leadership at this company eventually leaves. Favoritism by Sr Leadership is rampant at this company.

I have been working at Florida Blue full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

The corporate office has many convenient amenities and benefits are decent.

    Cons

    - Work life balance is gone.
    - Management is out of touch
    - Everything possible I being outsourced based on cost only, not quality, regardless of what it is.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Constantly pushing employees to the breaking point due to lay-offs, ineffective systems and processes, while adding more work to the remaining staff is not effective and will in the end lead to poor performance for the whole company. This is not the best way to increase profits.
