Pros – If you have the right department head, there are opportunities to create your own course as you see fit, particularly if you teach online courses.
Cons – * Apathetic students who disregard information about deadlines and assignment requirements and still expect an A in the course.
* Apathetic bureaucracy who seem unable to provide the most basic information or make it easily accessible.
* Course technicians who disregard direct instructions or who fail to fulfill their responsibilities or who care more about conformity than what works best for the course. Plus, they're only evaluated once a year instead of every semester, forcing you to wait for problems to get worse over time.
Advice to Senior Management – Treat adjuncts with more respect and give us the opportunity to provide direct feedback on our course technicians.

Pros – You gain a lot of experience working at FIU. Leadership and teamwork is very important. And there can be a lot of opportunity for growth.
Cons – It is kind of hard to get your foot in the door at FIU, but once you do, growth is easy.
Advice to Senior Management – For the most part, management is really great. There are some management that can be a bit more understanding.

I worked at Florida International University
Pros – Opportunity for education
that's pretty much it
Cons – Elitist attitudes. You must be "one of the boys" to get anywhere. Also, FIU is highly bureaucratic, meaning that in order to get just one simple thing done, you have to go through many people.
Advice to Senior Management – Streamline all processes and avoid the "fraternal" attitude when it comes to promotions and appointments.

I have been working at Florida International University
Pros – You get to find people from several countries, which gives you the opportunity to get some insights about their cultural influences and also learn to be more open minded.
Cons – Language barrier might be a difficulty in interacting with new comers. Sometimes even with senior people. But it can be worked out.
Advice to Senior Management – Please do your best effort to avoid raising tuition and incorporating from time to time additional fees. Keep up the good work, otherwise.

I have been working at Florida International University
Pros – You get to live in Miami, the campus is nice, the weather is warm, the education is really top notch but the university gets little recognition for it's quality (and difficulty) of education.
Cons – They want you to stay broke, the cost of living in this city makes it difficult to live on the salary you are given, the professors can be difficult to work with, not too different than being a grad student anywhere else.
Advice to Senior Management – Help the students, they work hard and have no life and get little for it. I have never been more depressed as a grad student than I have ever been in my life. The universities funding problem is exacerbated by the spending to expand infrastructure, but they cut classes.

I have been working at Florida International University
Pros – Balance of time for courses and research. Co-workers and advisors for the most part all work well together. Excellent location in Miami.
Cons – Parking is terrible no matter what time of the day or semester. Employee self service portal is very difficult to use. Really not many cons.
