Typical disfunctional company, some areas better than others, blindly driven by engineer types not good business people.

I worked at Flowserve full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Good money, good products, potential to carve out your own professional island in a sea of disorganization

    Cons

Management run on emotion, not facts. Lots of cronyism. Some people should have been gone long ago. People at the top only know they should push the latest trends and buzzwords. They have no real vision.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Could be an incredible company but there is no real plan from the top down. If you don't figure out how to schedule soon the competition is going to finish eating your lunch! 40 weeks to make a pump and you can't schedule the parts on time? Parts for jobs continue to be lost because you have a lousy process for tracking from dock to stock to job. Can't justify hiring real professionals in this area? Jeeez. The culture is to blame, curse and yell. That is just lame in 2014. Wake up! Take that top level bonus money and spend it on the employees. How about an on site cafeteria? How about getting rid of the 1950's desks? How about giving employees the privacy professionals deserve? Who wants to sit with their back exposed so management can see what they are doing? Is it a place people want to work? Better take a look around at successfull companies, do they have any of the above? If you think I'm describing a country club work environment, then YOU are a dinosaur from the 1940s. You have all the metrics in the world but you are still failing miserably, why? Could it be that you think that guys like the one you brought over from Neuclear to be in charge are the right type? You know who I mean; the one who gleefully, in large training sessions, told how he would fire people and then go back to his hotel and order a nice steak dinner and sleep like a baby because those people were slackers. Yea, that's right, those are not people you want running your company. Glad he is gone, hope you learned something from that one.

Not your typical corporate setting. People are laid back but here to provide results for our customers.

I have been working at Flowserve full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Good benefits include full health coverage, healthy and safe work environment, and very manageable working hours (7:30-4:00 most days).

    Cons

The position I'm currently in has a high turnover rate. Either you are promoted with 2-3 years or you move on to another company. Often times, our customers will hire engineers and pay higher salaries, Flowserve will not match. It seems as if the position is replaceable, which is understandable from a business stand point, but doesn't sit well with employees.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Always keep the bigger picture in perspective. 99% of Application Engineers DO NOT see themselves in this position more than 2-3 years down the road. Work with engineers to understand how they want to grow and where they can move up in the company.

I have been working at Flowserve

    Pros

Benefits are average for comparable firms.
Typical co-workers good to work with, strive for performance and pride in work.

    Cons

Limited opportunity based only on politics and not performance.
Poor support from management, poor tools to perfrom job function.
Management disconnected. No planning only reactive. No communication.
    Management not trustworthy.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Need to review integrity of management.
Need to actually commit to emphasized "ethics", "diversity" and "customer service", not merely recite rhetoric.

I have been working at Flowserve full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Very good benefits which includes up to 5 weeks vacation per year, very traditional and strong products in strong markets.

    Cons

The company has limited strategic planning, a very high overhead structure that limits growth at the plant level. Many cases of limited understanding of markets and growth opportunities.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Let the good people at the plant make the day to day decisions to met or exceed market expections.

I worked at Flowserve full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Good benefits, there are still some great people in management roles that are fair and have high work ethics, the majority of the employees in the field are hard working, great sales force, Flowserve has great products. there are great training courses available as long as they are utilized as they used to be years ago at the sales meetings.

    Cons

The company has gone downhill as far as a company to work for. The morale was at an all time low when I left, people who had been there for over 10 years were leaving. The company had stopped sales meetings, incentives, etc. The CEO and COO lost perspective on the most important part of the company which should be the people. If your employees are not in a pleasant work environment then they will not be as productive as they should be. Flowserve expects more work but will not give more pay, they eliminate a position or a person and won't fill it to save money however you are to compensate for that person without being compensated. if it were temporary it is understandable however if it is for 1 year, 2 years, and so on it is the culture.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Focus on the people in the company, advance within the company, train people appropriately, it takes money to make money, actually listen to the employees and remember your sales force are the ones who are bringing in the money not the people sitting in the corporate office. The board members and C levels need to come from behind the "closed doors" and step up.

I worked at Flowserve full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Some selected individuals make it worth working here.

    Cons

Long hours, and expect to work from home answering emails, phone calls. No personal life. Terribly disorganized and everyone will throw you under the bus.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Treat your employees with respect and place focus on their need to evolve.
