I worked at Flowserve full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Many good people work here. Benefits.

    Cons

Raises are low. No work life balance. Never gives enough time to complete projects before they are starting another - when the previous one still does not work properly. 'Cast System' with management. No team building and one company sponsored event.

    Advice to Management

    Invest in your people

I have been working at Flowserve full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Friendly co workers, It is a big company with a lot of divisions, there is some degree of job security but that seems to be a virtue not for a long period of time depending on the company's growth and investment in China.

    Cons

Company seems to struggle to go beyond being an over grown machine shop. New ideas generally ignored and technology is not utilized to make day to day activities more efficient. Yearly raise is usually around 1 to 1.5% and its getting more challenging to meet with management expectations to meet up for a satisfactory bonus pay. Life work balance is challenging as management push more work on people without figuring out how to run their business efficiently. It could get really stressful at times for work to be finished without sufficient time given for the complexity of the projects.

    Advice to Management

Stop worrying about numbers, promote quality, listen to your employees and try to embrace technology and utilize it.

Sales goals most generally are reasonable, however if one blows the doors off in a given year. The proceeding year's target will be last years sales, plus 5-10%. The old adage is, if you make extra bonus, above plan. Put your money in the bank for next year your going to need it.

Former Employee - Project Manager in Dallas, TX

    Pros

The direct employees are extremely competent, easy to work with and many are very loyal. They have a wealth of subject matter experts in Utah, Cookeville, Essen and Linkoping that will be retiring soon with nor heirs apparent. They let you keep your frequent flyer miles and do not take them for wives to use on annual executive team building trips.

    Cons

Dallas executives do not understand that the culture of pitting manufacturing sites against each other is not conducive to global team building. Top down Management decisions with that ignore input from experts. No open door policy. As a whole, the Executives who profess the philosophy of outsourcing engineering and manufacturing as a lower cost to India is akin to the Hans Christian Anderson story of The Emperor's New Clothes. Unless you worked at Masoneilan, there exists no upward mobility. Valtek, Durco, Sereg, NAF, and Kammer former employees will never make senior executives for Flowserve

    Advice to Management

Quit Outsourcing to off shore companies that do not understand the industry and do not understand by US LAW. You cannot replace subject matter experts with 20+ years of experience with Indian engineers out of college with 2 years of experience that have no comprehension of process safety or have never even seen the equipment in a operating industrial plant. Include your sales pipeline on providing input to items that directly affect them and most of all Reach out to the customers! Those in Dallas do not know what the end users desire to move ahead and focus only on the balance sheet, CGS and headcount.
