I worked at Fluid full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Fluid used to have the best group of people working together (smart, kind, funny, hard-working). The leadership used to trust and grant employees all sorts of opportunities to prove themselves and build their careers in a collaborative environment.

    Cons

Fluid took their workforce and their clients for granted. They kept on letting people go and not putting together the right teams to substitute the lost comrades. They'd rotate people around an account until the clients would get tired of it. They brought great people in, treated them like the flavor of the week, and then let them go quickly after. I think they viewed new employees like a silver bullet, but didn't provide them the tools, trust and resources to succeed (specially when the new employees' vision differed from their own). To make matters worse, the new leadership was condescending and lacked loyalty to their workforce.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Trust your workforce and don't rotate people around that much. Accounts do better with stability and a plan.

I worked at Fluid full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Location, dog-friendly, some nice contacts you might make for future jobs.
They try to stock with fridge with healthy snacks etc.

    Cons

Political, lying and over-promising and under-delivering management.
     Favoritism trumps results.
Compensation is unbelievably poor relative to local market.
Random layoffs of talented people who make 'in the club' colleagues look bad.
    Benefits are not competitive
Claims of a 'transparent' management communication are simply fantasy BS.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Seriously, cash out and go.

A great place to work at for a bit, but not a place to spend your career at

I worked at Fluid full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

The people are the best reason to work here—Fluid does a great job of hiring people who fit into their culture.
Flexibility in working from home or remotely is also big at Fluid, but their chic downtown SF office can also be considered a "perk."

    Cons

*Agencies have ups and downs, and Fluid always seems to be seeking out its new place in the market as the market changes. That's part of agency life. With Fluid, it's often unclear how today's current business plan affects or reflects the work that they're currently doing (or soon starting).

*Clients can really be hit or miss! Mostly miss...

*Fluid tends to underpay its employees, perhaps as a tradeoff for their fun work culture.

I have been working at Fluid full-time

    Pros

People are great to work with and everyone on projects is dedicated to producing the best they can. Projects are mainly interesting with big-name retailers. Schedule is fairly flexible with the ability to work from home/switch up your hours if needed.

    Cons

Upper-management is awful and has created an us vs. them culture between upper management and the rest of the staff. People's desks are suddenly empty due to lay-offs with no explanation as to why. In the rare instance there is a meeting called to discuss lay-offs, there is no transparency as to the true reasons why.

Promises are often made about company growth potential and future benefits, but none are ever fulfilled. Personal growth potential can often be exaggerated and promotions need to be fought for. Company benefits are not good in comparison to other San Francisco companies and retention policies seem to be non-existent.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Start caring about your employees - create an open dialogue and be transparent about the company's future.

    Pros

    Terrific co-workers
    Great office and location
    Dog friendly

    Cons

Plenty of money for senior management; raises are almost non-existent for everyone else
Astonishingly bureaucratic for a "start up"
    Fuzzy future

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Resign. You have outlived your usefulness and are now impeding success. If you can't make the company a success after 15 years of trying, get out of the way and let those who know what they're doing try.
