Former Employee – worked at Fluor
Pros – Is a place with a good environment and a good pay. They give you a really organize and complete guidelines that help you do your job.
Cons – Is a work that if the oil's company's are doing good you don't have to worry about but if the oil price go down they are going to do a massive layoff.
Advice to Senior Management – Try to make a more stable environment trying to diversify the types od jobs.

Former Employee – worked at Fluor
Pros – Pay is adequate, benefits are the best I've found. When times are good the company will come up with deecent pay increases.
Cons – Training and advancement are reserved for the fair haired boys. Your supervisor decides the course of your career- not you. If a parent is dying you have to beg for time off to see them and threatened with your job when you do.
Advice to Senior Management – I offered my advice while I worked there and gave that same advice during my exit interview and dismissed as an "emotional woman." Why would I bother doing it again?

Current Employee – been working at Fluor
Pros – - Good Slaries overall.
- Raises are based on performance and not so much pleasing shareholders.
- A global presence allowing favorable work assignments in general.
Cons – - No substantial effort to keep emplyees during downturns
- A jump from middle to upper management is usually a long painfull process
- Excessive submission to Client's requests in terms of deliverables, especially timing.
- Career development plans and programs that look good on paper but hard to execute
Advice to Senior Management – - There should be an allocation of funds for continuous training and career development plans during the downturns.
- There is nothing wrong with getting kick-out of a project by the client for trying to do the "right" thing

Former Employee – worked at Fluor
Pros – Unique work schedule. Every other Friday off. You work 36 hours one week, 44 hours another.
Cons – 45 minute mandated company wide lunch breaks. This didn't provide ample time if one needed to use lunch break for errands.
Advice to Senior Management – Ask your employees for suggestions or comments.

Former Employee – worked at Fluor
Pros – Prestige, stable company, international, many talented and knowledgeable people, well-established and honed processes, fair pay, generous paid time off benefits, average medical/dental benefits, nice offices, above-average investment in tools to perform work, high quality standards.
Cons – I can only speak about the department where I worked, which was a department that supported sales efforts. I have heard that people who have worked in other departments have had better experiences.
The biggest con for me was the cold atmosphere. The person on the other side of the cubicle wall from me would e-mail rather than speak to me in person. This person was the most experienced and knowledgable in the department. I could have learned a lot from the person but was too intimidated by the lack of warmth to talk to the person much. Almost everyone else in the department behaved similarly.
There seemed to be a lot of fear about getting laid off if one's timesheet did not reflect an adequate number of billable hours. (At the same time, there wasn't enough work to keep the whole department busy.) This was perhaps one of the reasons for the cold atmosphere. I think this fear was a holdover from another era, though there were layoffs in the department about a year ago.
There was one person in the department that very few people liked, and they would gossip about her constantly. Very uncomfortable.
There wasn't enough work! I thrive under pressure and was bored most of the time.
There was an abusive person in another department that I had to deal with. Like most people I encountered at this company, this person had been there for many years and was tolerated, though everyone acknowledged the person was abusive.
Finally, at the location where I worked, coffee was not provided. There was a stand outside where you could buy it if you wanted to. Prices were about half Starbucks' for a basic cup, but it wasn't very good coffee. Anyway, not providing coffee as a perk just seemed to say something negative to me, right off the bat, about the company's values.
Advice to Senior Management – Make sure you utilize everyone you hire. Employees will stay engaged if they feel needed.

Current Employee – been working at Fluor
Pros – The senior management team is fairly competent, but no real superstars
The work can be very diverse because all business groups are represented @ Greenville office
Cons – even if you're a top performer you could be in danger during worforce reductions
program for individuals with high potential is not well developed
Networking is a prerequisite for promotions
Advice to Senior Management – Refer to cons
Also, need to work on attracting more top talent in order to keep top talent. Additionally, they need to understand what the meritocracy concept is all about.

Current Employee – been working at Fluor
Pros – When work was coming in there was plenty to do and I learned a lot during this time. The knowledge sharing is second to none and I never felt bad asking any questions that I had.
Cons – It seems that the market was overestimated by our management. Our bids were not competitive and now we are paying for it with layoffs.
Advice to Senior Management – Know the market better and try to share some work between offices. Other divisions of Fluor have been doing well, but we have not been able to benefit from this.

Pros – Great people and work climate.
Cons – No projects - no work - no job. At the mercy of the economy (just like any other company).

Former Employee – worked at Fluor
Pros – Very family friendly - colleagues and bosses understanding when family situations crop up.
Nobody is expected to stay late (can be a con b/c nobody will give you an extra 5 min at the end of the day to get something finished.)
Cons – Glacial pace of projects. A lot of hurry up and wait.
Mediocrity everywhere - a lot of old ppl there just to work as long as possible before they have to retire. They have no interest in doing things faster, making a better system or listening to anybody's input.
Good old boy network still in place and nepotism abounds. This is more annoying due to older engineers want to share info with their friends, not a younger person. Info shared via personal connections, not through a work system.
When project hours are finshed, you will be laid off.
Very silo'd company. Everyone territorial with hours and info but eager to share blame when client is upset.
Middle management turnover is a lot as ppl get rotated.
No career path up unless you are a chosen one hired as a fresh graduate.
Advice to Senior Management – Institute 360 reviews. Once a manager was so hostile to every suggestion not his own that people delayed making decisions on the project for three months, just waiting it out until he retired.
