I worked at Fluor full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Lots of exposure and opportunity to take on new challenges. International opportunities abound. Ability to "stretch" yourself. Comfortable working environment.

    Cons

Salaries below market. Personal and family life take second place. You can get laid off easily if there is no project work available.

    Advice to Management

    Nothing.

    Pros

Great culture, great people, with a helpful, friendly and supportive environment. Fair fast-paced with a lot of room to prove yourself and excel at what you're doing. Greenville is a great place to live.

    Cons

Only working as an intern, I got the impression that many of the project manager level, mid-management employees moved around a lot. Engineers who stayed in Greenville may not have the best job-security.

    Pros

Fluor is an awesome company. I have worked for them overseas and as a contractor CONUS. Although they currently do not have an assignment for me, I firmly believe another opportunity with Fluor will become available. All years of service accrue no matter the business line.

    Cons

The biggest downside is that the contracts are not always stable. One never knows when the assignment will end and you will be out of a job again.

    Advice to Management

There needs to be better communication with employees "on the bench".

I worked at Fluor full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

The company has a good project management procedures and standards, has a competitive per diem while on site.

    Cons

Being a project engineer, you have to be out of home and base on site so get away from family and a lot of travels throughout the project.

I have been working at Fluor full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Fluor is very big on training opportunities if you take advantage of them. The company is also always looking for ways to advance itself within the EPC industry, which these days is getting harder and harder to accomplish. Good 9/80 schedule, benefits, and work-life balance.

    Cons

The company in general is stuck in the cost reimbursable mindset of the 1980's and is subsequently losing a large number of projects worldwide because of this. As an employee it's very easy to get lost in the system and become just another SAP number if you don't take the initiative to advance your career. The TOWP (Time off with pay or PTO) system is incredibly outdated and needs to be replaced.

    Advice to Management

Get with the times and ditch the age-old mindset of the 1900's EPC firm.
