Small regional bank that is a great place to start, but has substandard pay / advancement opportunities.

I have been working at Flushing Bank full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Workers and middle management are 100% friendly, hardworking people.
Great opportunity for entry-level workers to gain experience and skills.
Good hours. Occasionally called upon to work 45-50 hrs. For the most part by far, it's 9-5.

    Cons

Shockingly few opportunities for advancement. Most people hired tend to stay exactly where they are, with minimal pay increase / benefits, except for those who start at or near the top of the hierarchy (to be expected at any bank, I suppose. Flushing takes it to a new level).

Below-average pay and benefits for the industry in this area of country.

Unbelievably poor software / data infrastructure. I can't say how many times I've told customers / coworkers to "wait while the system loads". It's very embarrassing.

Workload is very high, and management refuses to hire new people / upgrade software to cope.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Push more strongly to upgrade horrible, 1980s-era software. Offer performance incentives to younger, more entry-level employees. The lending operation at the bank is run much too conservatively. Take more risks.

I have been working at Flushing Bank full-time

    Pros

Sales goals are not difficult to achieve
Generous during holiday season (turkey voucher for thanksgiving and half-day at any day in december so you can do your Christmas shopping)

    Cons

In-branch positions can be stressful, because their computer system is slow and prone to cease working.
If you make a mistake, upper management knows about it right away (even for minuscule issues)
When you need help, back office will be quick to allocate blame or additional responsibility onto you, before they even think of helping you.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Micromanaging should be focused more towards back office, as opposed to in-branch employees

    Pros

Some of the coworkers are nice. Their Christmas party is always nice.

    Cons

Management and VP don't recognize their bottom employees who are doing all the works to make the bank productive. When VP's visit the department, they pass by your cubicle as you're invisible. they don't even acknowledge you. They make you feel that you are not worth their good morning or afternoon. The worst is you have to watch your own back. everyone is stabbing everyone in the back. If you are confronted with an issue with your supervisor and told Human Resources about, you are a fool for doing so. HR goes right back and tell your supervisor what you said without investigation to find out if it is the truth or not. almost the whole management team is there because of who they know. Flushing Bank hires people without most experience in key position because of their family or friend ties. you get >1% raise.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Stay away.

Some of the branches could use a facelift.

    Cons

    hr department@#$%^%

    Pros

    NONE. The hours are OKAY.

    Cons

Horrible outdated slow programs and systems. Hard to get promoted, very little room or growth. Senior management is horrible, they are always quick to blame their employees and never take the fall. Only watch their own back. Company always says they are cutting costs but they always seem to be hiring new senior management for these made up positions (which most of the time are very unnecessary) . Are very slow to hire new employees. Work load is insane. Way too much paper work they need to learn how to do things electronically.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Get faster programs and systems

    Pros

Absolutely nothing.... Oh wait you get $20 turkey voucher at Thanksgiving but they expect you to think they are wonderful for doing sometime nice.

    Cons

This company is a rotten place to work. The systems are beyond slow and outdated which makes it next to impossible to serve the customers. Most branches are old and falling apart and senior management will not do a thing to make their employees working environment safer and more comfortable. Customer get disgusted! The bully running the company is insane and she treats everyone like a spec of dirt. Employees are irate, disgruntled and quite frankly exhausted. You couldn't find a motivated one if you tried. Backstabbing and gossip is their highlight of the day. If you try to give them good ideas and find ways to promote their business and brand they treat you like a fool. Senior management is disconnected, unappreciative and borderline abusive. The Human Resources Department has no authority and could care less what you think or how you feel because their too busy trying to keep their jobs and kissing the bully's bum. Just a bear of a place to work. Please save yourselves!

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Listen to your employees, retain your talented people and invest in them. You say you surround yourself with "smart people"... Try again! Get off you pedi stools and dig deep. Your loseing ground because your not trusted or respected.

Worst bank to work for dont waste your time there!!!
Managment need to help there employees not just talk on the cell phone all day
No room for advancment, horrible staff, no team work,
My advice to anyone considering a job there to reconsider because it is the worst place to work for.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Fire your Managers and area managers and hire some educated experienced people that lead by example not just boss people around and they dont know what there doing

I have been working at Flushing Bank full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Worked here for 3+ years and I found no pros. For those newcomers, it seem friendly but once you work here long enough you know it's more stabbing people in the back and blaming each other (when it's the management that isn't doing anything to help)

    Cons

management/supervisors doesn't care about their employees; just wants their employees to make money for them. Very little raises <1% a year, no bonuses.
They don't hire people because they keep claiming their budgets are low but in facts, the money are being pocketed in their senior management.
Long work hours (doesn't matter if you have kids, you stay till the work is done)
    No recognition at all
Worst is that they can't even supply the office with enough water for the month for all their employees, we had to pay for water!
    No promotion or growth.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

If you want the employees to stay then treat them with respect and provide them with the necessary tools to do their job. Stop hiring from outside and start promoting your employees.
