    Mixed bag..... 3 headed Dragon...

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)
    Toronto, ON (Canada)

ProsExcellent Company made up of many individuals. The best part of Flynn are the people and work ethic. they do promote safety on the job... well sometimes and depends on your super..

Consthe growth there is very intense. Promotion is a 2 headed curse. need people to build and organization, but in times of growth you need to promote staff. Management at Flynn, if at any other company could not work as they do there. Many leaders, mangers and field staff are not properly trained. Corp and Admin staff need to have a better knowledge of inner workings of the business.

Advice to Senior ManagementManage as you would want to be managed. Respect your employee's and staff. admit to being wrong. Mangers and senior managers need to work in the field then sitting in the office. It's nice that you visit, spend more time than just a site visit......

    Bad place to work

    Glazier (Current Employee)
    Vancouver, BC (Canada)

ProsBenefits package is good, pay is decent.
Emphasis on safety is a good thing.
Many of the on site installers are good guys and enjoyable to work with.

ConsNo standard overtime policy - it changes from site to site and is often unfair - (they will try to cheat you out of overtime hours by paying straight time)
Employees are fired because the managers simply dont like them - even if they do good work.
    Very high turnover rate.
Senior management is incompetent at best and malicious at worst.
BC division is not making much money for the company, largely because of mistakes from management, but the on site employees are always blamed.
Very inflexible company to work for - if you have suggestions for improvement or legitimate complaints they are mostly ignored.
Lots of politics, gossip and backstabbing from the office personnel.
Company does not care about customers and will frequently try to cheat them by telling us to do shoddy work.

    Advice to Senior ManagementReplace yourselves.

Acceptable mid sized company to work for but better to be considered as a stepping stone in a career.

    IT Specialist (Former Employee)
    Mississauga, ON (Canada)

    ProsFamily based business
Learning opportunities through external education facilities
    Work Life balance
    Semi-Competitive Salary (in I.T.)

    ConsFamily based business
Absolute lack of structure / organization
Talent retention / turnover leading to very low employee morale (company wide)

I.T. is a very difficult area to work in. All executives and most non IT employees have a very poor image of I.T. due to I.T. implementing many unneccesary policies and protocols which regular employees face on a daily basis. I.T. is managed by non I.T. specialists/professionals and there is always battle as to who is the overall champion.

Generally speaking though, you really need to know the "secret hand shake" to make it anywhere signifigant at Flynn.

Advice to Senior ManagementShow appreciation for the staff you have.
Understand your talent pool and their skills and apply them accordingly.
    Lose the "secret handshake" attitude.
