    Pros

Lots of opportunities to work and move up, but only if you get noticed by the right people. Excellent CEO that is very inspiring and truly motivates his employees.

    Cons

Extremely political, encourages office bullying, turns the other way and does not deal with any issues/problems leading to low employee retention and high turnover rates; lack of people training/management; HR does not know what they are doing - very disorganized structure.

    Advice to Management

Reward people for working hard; deal with issues when they arise rather than turn the other way; if people can't do their jobs - fire them.

    Pros

The best of everything - the industry standard for roofing, programs, equipment, etc. Amazing building - gym, parking, etc. Owner is an extremely motivating person who makes people want to work for him.

    Cons

Very political and still adapting to being a big company rather than a small roofing operation. The inmates are allowed to run the asylum and this comes from the very top down. Field staff has more pull than managers. This seems to be primarily a Toronto issue. Pay is slightly below average for the industry and expectations are the highest in the industry. Very rewarding if you're offered shares though.

    Advice to Management

There is a need to correct the culture and to empower managers. Field staff shouldn't be more influential than their managers, and while it's great to pay lip service to the importance of field staff, front line management is the most difficult position in this company.

    I worked at Flynn Canada

    Pros

Lots of work available. The foreman are usually very on task and helpful.

    Cons

Upper management have some flaws they need to work out.

    Advice to Management

Provide employees with more support in the form of morning coffee's when supervisors drive around.

  6. Foreman was a racist POS however because he is so productive the office looks the other way

    Pros

    Good pay good benefit coverage

    Cons

Slave drivers, no OT pay, lack of communication between upper management and workers, praise that safety comes first however that is only true if it doesn't interfere with production.

    Advice to Management

Have more concern about issues and problems that workers bring to the office in regards to harassment and abuse by employees, stop turning a blind eye. I tried emailing the CEO directly as well as other HR staff and never got a reply back in regards to the issues involving harassment and verbal abuse.

    Pros

A few of the people were gems. In most of the office positions there is flexibility of work time, e.g. 7-4 or 8-5, etc. Benefits were good.

    Cons

Management was secretive and missued resources to spy unecesarily on staff. I know because I was asked to track spending and vacations. Human time should not be spent onerously tracking vacations/spending when software is created for such tasks. I understand that companies need to know these things but make appropriate use of the computer chip which has been around for quite some time now. Never came across an untrustworthy employee in my time there. Spending was erratic at best. For example I saw over 6K spent on 4 game tickets(!) that were not used and management ok'd pizza every single day for a select few. Yet, they attempt to save money by firing a receptionist who loved her job instead of offering re-training and making an administrator do her job as well as her own job -for peanuts pay and no training. Clearly no one is doing any long term planning at this organization.

    Advice to Management

Invest in training and solicit feedback from staff before making impetuous decisions.

    Pros

    - good people to work with (for the most part) - good facilities

    Cons

    - depending on the department, management is not trained - does not have faith in employees

    Advice to Management

Get people that are qualified to manage your departments, and your people will flourish

    Pros

Excellent Company made up of many individuals. The best part of Flynn are the people and work ethic. they do promote safety on the job... well sometimes and depends on your super..

    Cons

the growth there is very intense. Promotion is a 2 headed curse. need people to build and organization, but in times of growth you need to promote staff. Management at Flynn, if at any other company could not work as they do there. Many leaders, mangers and field staff are not properly trained. Corp and Admin staff need to have a better knowledge of inner workings of the business.

    Advice to Management

Manage as you would want to be managed. Respect your employee's and staff. admit to being wrong. Mangers and senior managers need to work in the field then sitting in the office. It's nice that you visit, spend more time than just a site visit......

Have trust & faith in your employees skills and capabilities
