Engineer at FXI

Engineer (Former Employee)
Fort Wayne, IN

I worked at Foamex full-time for more than 10 years

ProsEducation reimbursement - was 100% - uncertain how much reduced.

ConsPoorly managed; knee jerk reaction to last quarter's numbers.

Advice to Senior ManagementLearn that the people making money for the company must be treated as those with heartbeats - forget the headcount fixation.

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend

Don't plan on staying here long...

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

I worked at Foamex

ProsLots of lunch places close by in Media, you'll need to get out of the office a lot once you get to know how things work here.

ConsWould compare it to the Titanic, everyone is doing their best to help upper management but they are treated like 3rd class. If you aren't short and white, forget any type of advancement.

Advice to Senior ManagementStop trying to come up with "big ideas" and start trying to keep your current business from going under.

Struggling to be re-born as a consumer products company

Product Manager (Former Employee)
Media, PA

I worked at Foamex full-time for more than a year

ProsThe company excels in foam manufacture. Their skillset in finding innovative solutions using foams in unparalleled. They have a highly skilled engineering department which helps drive the innovation. They have a number of patents including one for a unique manufacturing technique which is far more environmentally safe than traditional foam manufacturing.

ConsThe company is struggling to find its way in converting to consumer products focus. The cost structure for some product lines seems out of alignment considering how vertically integrated the company is. There is a distinct lack of procedural documentation on product implementation.

Not a place for long-term career growth

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

I have been working at Foamex full-time

ProsThe company draws you in with the potential, which is evident and a fairly competitive compensation. There are quite a few great people in the organization who, if left to contribute, could make a significant impact on the organization.

ConsThere is a corporate culture of mistrust, blame and circumstantial targeting. When the company does well, they celebrate and pay accolades as to how well the upper management led the success. However, when the company does poorly, there are layoffs, firings and blaming of many individuals that have caused this demise. Since there is no real HR representation, there is no one to go to if you are one of, or know one of, those individuals who have been unfairly targeted.

Advice to Senior ManagementPay attention to your talent and remove some of the elitist reporting structures. Empower the talent you have to present ideas on their own. Continue to develop and foster your talent so there is not such a high burnout and turnover rate.

A completely dysfunctional corporate culture

Product Management (Former Employee)
Media, PA

I worked at Foamex full-time for more than a year

ProsThey're not shy about paying for top talent.

ConsThere are two kinds of employees at FXI: Those that have been there for 20-30 years, are clock watchers and completely resistant to change, and those in executive leadership positions who let their egos run the show.

Advice to Senior ManagementThe corporate culture needs to radically change. There is no emphasis on training there - From a recruiting perspective, all they are looking for is for people who can hit the ground running, rather than looking for high potential individuals that can be trained and move up within the organization. If FXI has any hope of breaking the cycle of bankruptcies and the revolving door of CEOs, this HAS to change. But everyone there is seemingly too lazy to take on the challenge of training.
