    Pros

The opportunities to work with different types of domains and product development. It has always been a good way to learn new technology.

    Cons

Nothing overly negative. Changes can happen quickly which can be good for some people and maybe not good for others.

    Advice to Management

Keep working on bringing the new projects in and communicate updates more real time to the staff.

    Pros

    * diversity of projects and technologies: one can work on medical devices, avionics, industrial controls, AND video games.

    Cons

    * no product ownership and little long term (longer than a single project, 6-18 mos.) team identity. Once the project is delivered to the client, you're done and off to the next thing or "on the bench" waiting for the next thing, which may well be with a completely different set of inidviduals.
    * as a salaried employee, work/life balance can suffer under pressure to deliver more billable hours than the nominal 40 hour work week can accommodate.

    Advice to Management

Figure out how to let the engineering talent know you value them as unique individuals, and do that, consistently.

  3. Most backwards run company to work for, keep your sanity and look for a job elsewhere.

    Pros

Free beverages, they order lunch for practically any reason. Near burlington mall

    Cons

Arrogant leadership, shuns outsiders, not willing to change processes regardless of what is best for the business. Reluctant to listen to experienced employees suggestions and needs.

    Advice to Management

Listen to your employees and know which ones are going to be a key in success for the company. Ultimately employees are the best assets and when you work to push them out of the door, your business will not thrive like it could

    Pros

Lost of incredibly talented engineers, lots of opportunities. Strong focus on success will result in a lot of opportunity, but lack of engagement won't lead to success. They recognize talent quickly.

    Cons

Challenging environment for marginally talented. People that leave are usually asked to leave for a reason.

    Advice to Management

Keep focused on the needs of the people that do the work. We work hard and appreciate the feedback (and the bonuses).

    Pros

Company does have good intentions towards employee well being. Provides free beverages and breads and games in break room.

    Cons

Tends to promote managers with demeaning interaction styles.Culture of disregard for timeliness and keeping commitments begins with management and shows up in projects.

    Advice to Management

Watch more carefully who you elevate into management and how they use their authority.

    Pros

The food. Free bread, fruit and bagels. If you're willing to take ownership, spend long hours at work or at learning new things on your own time, then you will be rewarded.

    Cons

To improve "professionalism", each employee is encouraged to 'tattle' each other.

    Advice to Management

It's hypocritical to be all righteous indignation when someone who's had enough posts their resume on a job site. Be honest with your employees. If you really care about your employees, as you say then blindsiding them is not caring.

    Pros

It is exciting to have this variety of project experiences available while still employed at one stable firm. The sense of teamwork is excellent. People really care about our customers and earning their repeat business. The level of technical excellence is very high.

    Cons

As with any business, we do the work that comes and it is not always exciting. You have to have a real spirit of teamwork. There is a small core group of founders and owners who are easy to get along with, but you really have to do so. Foliage signs NDA agreements with every client so you have to be able to keep secrets.

    Advice to Management

Try to develop the same sense of loyalty and family with hires from after your first ten years as the people who helped you found the firm.

    Pros

Variety of projects. Can learn a lot with different clients and technologies.

    Cons

good if you are part of the "club" else everything you do is wrong. No work / life balance.
Easily the worst place to work. lots of "high" ranking people nobody to do any real work.
    Incompetent Management .

    Advice to Management

Knowing the "family" does not mean being competent. Should know how to hire the right people who foster a health work environment.

    Pros

Foliage is a great place to work if you are an experienced engineer with a proven track record, and are looking for a place to broaden your skills, both technical and "domain specific." Over time, you will work in a variety of industries, and gain a fresh appreciation for how much you didn't know - and how much you have yet to learn. Some of the stuff we work on is really cool, and you will get to work with a variety of experienced and talented engineers.

It is an especially great place to work if you are a software engineer who has previously worked at companies where software was not the primary focus of the business. Foliage provides a variety of engineering services to their customers, but their primary focus is on software intensive projects. I've found it refreshing to work at a company where top management really understands the business of software development.

    Cons

    1. Not every project is great. You may get stuck on a project that is dull or just drags on. Fortunately, it probably won't last too long, and your next project will probably be better.

    2. If you are looking to climb a corporate ladder, you might be better off at a product company. Foliage is best for strong technical people who want to remain technical.

    3. Because of customer confidentiality agreements, you may not be able to tell your friends about the really cool stuff you are working on.

    Advice to Management

Foliage has grown significantly over the past few years, and recently became part of a much larger corporation, Altran. Please do whatever you can to maintain the small company feeling and unique culture of Foliage.

    Pros

It's nice to work on different projects in a variety of application spaces. Management encourages a lot of learning, both on the clock when on down-time or on your own.

    Cons

If you're not part of the club you're not long for this place. It seems if you're part of it you can do no wrong, even when you screw up royally. If you're not in the club you have to go out of your way in order to not be considered a poor performer.

    Advice to Management

Stop the culture now, especially now that you have an opportunity with new ownership to clean out the problems. Try to start thinking about work-life balance. Nobody wants to be told on Friday afternoon that they need to work 30 hours before Monday. Once an awhile is ok, but 2-3 times a month is out of the question.
