I have been working at Follett Educational Services full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The staff and management I work with are all generally nice people, definitely not a cutthroat environment. Management's flexible, and the work is pretty varied and interesting.

    Cons

Bonuses are contingent and raises are consistently small. The combination can be discouraging and make you feel not valued at all.

I worked at Follett Educational Services part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Friendly co-worker, relatively stress free atmosphere.

    Cons

Seasonal positions are very short (2 or more weeks) around the end of semesters. Unless you're long term it probably isn't something to keep on a resume.

  7. Enjoyable work group, but the work I was in was not intellectually challenging. The company could have fixed that.

I worked at Follett Educational Services full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Educational focused company. Good Leadership. Time off options are good. Growth options are there, but it is not easy to switch between divisions.

    Cons

Large organization so change happens slowly. Individualism and ideas from the peanut gallery are not regularly taken as valid. They have been in business over 100 years, so why change it, if it ain't broken. FES division in particular.

    Advice to Management

Listen to your employees. Provide better opportunity to move up and around the organization.

Follett was a good company to work for until the recent merger of the Follett companies.

I worked at Follett Educational Services full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

It is rewarding to help school districts save money by offering textbooks at a discounted price as well as offering discounts on new paperbacks and other classroom supplies.

    Cons

This family owned business is not focused on helping their employees. There have been a large number of layoffs due to the merger of the Follett companies. Follett Educational Services was very profitable, but now many of high management have either lost their positions or have lost much of their responsibilities. It was their talents that made FES successful.

    Advice to Management

Keep your good employees and don't give their jobs to employees who work at the companies that have been losing money. That should be a no brainer.

    Pros

It is a place that gives people jobs to start working and make a little money to spend and pay some bills when they come in.

    Cons

There are no down sides with this company because it hires school kids, people who come off the streets who are looking for a job for a little while.

    Advice to Management

I am a very dependable person.
