    Pros

Awesome co-workers and managers to collaborate with.

    Cons

Still a 24-7-364 career with ungrateful customers.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Put more faith in long-term, experienced department managers and cut back on constant, big-idea changes.

    Pros

Nice people to work with, flexible schedule in some departments, controlled temperature.

    Cons

The pay sucks. I could go on about crappy insurance, etc. but that alone kills it for me. Anyplace that only goes up when the federal minimum wage makes it is not a great place to be.

I worked at Food Lion part-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

    Lot's of good people
    Can make lots of friends

    Cons

*They pay you as low as possible and work you as much as possible
    *High turnover
*Employees always calling out so you get calls every day you are off to come in
    *2nd shift and Weekends
*The company is owned by foreigners in Belgium and all the money is being sucked out of Americans for their benefit. employees be damned. Shop at an American owned grocery store instead.
*They have the office assistants handling everything from money orders, customer service returns, overseeing all front end employees, making deposits, counting cash, filing paperwork, and more, all while also running the cash register when the line gets long which happens often.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Pay the people that are hard workers and stay with you a livable wage!! I worked for Food Lion for 8 years and getting a raise was like pulling teeth. I got up to a whopping $8.50 an hour as the "Assistant CSM"/Office Assistant feast 2. Ridiculous. I kick myself for staying their for so long, but it was because of the people I worked with.

I have been working at Food Lion full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Good job for getting experience. You will learn to be consistent, focused, dependable, and trustworthy.

    Cons

Scheduling will be horrible because you are lowest and all events will effect you. Vacations and requests are a hassles if you have many and do not expect anything to be consistent. Employee turnover high, moral low, pay low and increases slow, and employee absenteeism high. The job is not for married or career minded people over the long term because the random second shift will make work balance difficult.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Company should allow all associates to purchase stock in the company. Most can not put and retirement money in their stocks. Please get your money on the way in the door because expect 1 % on the average.

I have been working at Food Lion part-time for more than a year

    Pros

Co-workers, time off, just a job, nothing to take seriously, customers sometimes fun to talk to.

    Cons

No compensation at all, micro management company, work hard with no appreciation, favoritism, buddy management team, immature managers, insinsitive to others real life situations.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Just because we are only lowly employees, we are not your personal slaves or servant. We are people too, and would like to be treated as though we matter, even though we know we don't. Working here has very little to do with the real world.

I worked at Food Lion part-time for more than a year

    Pros

Work mostly alone, and feel happy being responsible with multiple areas in the store. Fairly good hours during the morning-afternoon. Learned multiple different things involving the store in this position

    Cons

Did not receive as much money as job was worth. You needed to have full time hours but expected you to get everything done in a lot less hours

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Listen to your people and their needs, especially if they are very hard working and devoted to their time. Push for better pay. Without positions like this, you wouldn't have any product, in a great clean environment for customers to shop in! Treat your people like they matter. Things that look great on paper are not always practical.

I have been working at Food Lion full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

    you get real life experiences

    Cons

management do not work with you if you are trying to better yourself, they make it hard if they think you make to much money and cut your hours down to nothing. if you call HR they will inform your manager about what was discussed and retaliation is given. men are given more respect and get all the hours. men are hired in off the street even if there is a woman in the store that is capable of doing the same job. management stick together no mater what the situation is. this company does not take care of their employees...

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

get a degree and stop being Chauvinistic.
