Pros
It is very easy to advance with the company. Compensation is ok. Employee benefits have been better, but they are still ok.
Cons
Most employees are worked very hard. For example, one employee may know how to do mulitiple things in the store. Depending on how you manage your time, this can be good or bad.
Advice to Senior Management
Focus more on the employees just as much as you do customers.
Pros
Pay
Flexibility
Benefits
Atmosphere
Safe
Fun
Opportunity to learn different jobs in the store.
Cons
Various Hours
Some locations are in bad areas
Corporate training
Pros
Meet nice people, steady pay check ....easy to get hired but often times hiring more people than needed but its a nice place
Cons
be prepared to do what ever they ask out to do..you may be a cashier one day but be stocking the next
Advice to Senior Management
management should be more helpful and understanding of their employees concerns about the store and department duties according to job description
Pros
Pretty simple work, just got overwhelming at times. I got most days I wanted off.
Cons
Was told my starting pay would be higher, no nights, would have insurance, and get a raise. Got called in all the time.
None of that happened.
Advice to Senior Management
Stick to what you say.
Pros
*Customers are very friendly as are the other Associates.
Its a job.
*Everyone is treated the same way. Like crap.
Cons
*Starting pay rate for a stocker is $7.25. At Target they started me at $8 with a 50 cent overnight increase and a dollar raise when i was off seasonal.
*There is no training what so ever, you are thrown into the fray and left to drown if you cannot swim.
* There is no "great job" or any type of feed back for a job well done from management. But they are very quick to let you know when your work looks like, and i quote "hot sh!t".
*They expect perfection for minimum wage. When blocking, every item 3 deep, every item to the lip, every item aligned with its tag (even though tags are not set properly or spaced as such).
* Management is disrespectful to anyone below but quick to kiss the backside of someone above. If you are below them you are nothing.
*No understanding when you are sick. If you are vomiting, get a bag and keep working. if you are shot in the leg, get a band-aid and keep on limping.
*Obvious favoritism between management and select associates.
*Backstabbing. Do not and i repeat DO NOT trust anyone. If you are going to report someone, tell no one anything. If you are venting about your rough day, tell no one that works there. Everyone has one hand on a knife to plummet in your back. Allegiances are always unknown! Remember that!
*No contact with low level associates and high level corporate. The "open door policy" stops at the store manager unless its something outlandish and can get them sued.
*Associates are made to be able to run an entire store and still not paid for any cross-training. I myself am a Stocker, a Cashier, a Q&A, a Bager. While stocking the entire store (or blocking it) i am told to jump on register whenever needed, bag whenever needed, get carts as needed and am still expected to finish all of my work on time.
*There is no advancement unless you are a favored associate and even then its hard.
*Hours are constantly being cut.
Advice to Senior Management
I would suggest actual training courses. Performance reviews of management from the actual associates. Increased pay, decreased bonuses for salary that does not deserve them. And respect courses for people who are reported numerous times by associates.
Pros
Making a difference is rewarding, schedules are flexible.
Cons
Low pay, too little hours for those who want to work, rude Mgr in areas of the store.
Advice to Senior Management
Pay more attention to the front of the house and what it is like to shop in your store. Do not announce your visits! All Management shows up when you are visiting and put on a great show. Watch your videos of daily store operations. PLEASE set standard announcements when assistance is needed by sales associates. Appearance should be #1 I could go on and on. I work in your store because I like it. I am a very fortunate individual, I could be a 100% stay home mom, but my children are older now.
Pros
Stable company, and that's about it.
Cons
"My way or the highway" approach by senior management
1% pay raises
Took away associate's annual bonuses
Insurance benefits are VERY expensive and coverage sucks
Morale is in the toilet
Advice to Senior Management
Say "Thank you" It goes a long way. Require that the DMs work in a store at least once a month. They seem to lose touch with reality after a while. When you are short handed or busy on the Front End, don't ask "Where's all your help?" Hello, 300 hours isn't enough to make a customer friendly schedule with. Don't gripe about how there is no one to help, just get in there and help out. It won't kill you. After all, these people do pay your salary.
And get rid of the Operations Initaitive Specialists company wide and give us some more cashiers!!! You don't want the CSMs on register during peak time because it's hard to manage the Front End from behind register 3, but until you realize you're wasting your money on unnecessary jobs and not spending it where it's needed, we have no choice.
Pros
fair pay if you are already in position
reliable hours if you work hard
not much else... you get a paycheck
Cons
only want to hire part time employees now and pay them nothing....then expect them to work very hard and care
paying much less than previously for same positions....many people don't want to take promotions because of this
they put more stress on you than it is worth...we are not saving lives here
will use you up for all they can get out of you then spit you out
Advice to Senior Management
say "thank you" or "good job" sometimes. it goes a long way and improves attitudes and interactions with customers. i will work harder for you if i feel appreciated. if i feel worked like a dog and unappreciated, it shows to customers.
Pros
Great Benefits, wonderful associates, wonderful customers, ability to work a night shift with toatal control.
Cons
Upper management have no ethics, morals,or integrity. I equate the store I worked in to the, "High School Musical" movie series. They live in their own little bubble and we sold milk and bread. It wasn't rocket science so why make it more difficult than what it really is.
Advice to Senior Management
Treat your associates the way you want to be treated. When you try to play,"mind games" with your associates make sure you're playing with a full deck yourself. In this company its not," what" you know but ,"who" you know. The favoritism runs rampant in southeastern virginia!
Pros
Make new friends wether it's employees or customers.
Cons
There are not very many. The biggest con would be how our pay increase is dropping.
