I have been working at Food Lion

    Pros

The Store treats you like family. Your Supervisors treat you like family. We have a generous paid time off policy, 5 weeks a year to start as a Store Manager, along with a competitive salary

    Cons

Corporate support structure is lean, so you have to be comfortable making decisions on your own. Training can be light, so you have to be a self starter.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Continue to stay in touch with Retail Operations to be aware of whats going on at the store.

I have been working at Food Lion

    Pros

Job is fairly simple, I do markdowns, wait on customers, and clean up the prep and coolers at closing time, 7. I started out 8 months ago as a QA, then stocking, and now this position.

    Cons

Co workers are usually eager to teach a rookie. You get promoted based on work ethic and common sense. Full time opportunities are hard to come by.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The wages are decent, but not competitive with Whole Foods and Publix. Maybe that is because of different clienteles. I would advise offering more opportunities to earn full time hours. Most of the store is part time. Quit skimping on quality to keep up with Walmart, it sets the grocery stores apart from Walmart.

I worked at Food Lion full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Most anyone can get employed here. A very good first job, and a job where you will learn something about retail and working with customers.

    Cons

Food lion when I was there was more concerned about getting things done than caring about your need to be with your family. It's less important when you arrive than when you leave....cause nobodies leaving until the truck gets put away.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Don't forget about the human element
