I worked at Food Services of America (More than a year)

    Pros

The Pay and benefits and equipment.

    Cons

Work life balance is not communicated to New hires they tend to not understand that order selecting is a very demanding Position along with most positions in The food service distribution industry.

    Advice to Management

To be brutally honest while recruiting new talent regarding the demands required to Fourish in this industry to reduce the High turn over rate among employees In this industry. For every 10 order selector Hiring only two or three are make the cut After a six month initial period.

    Pros

Great health insurance, great benefits. Vacation is decent and sick time is great. They also have holiday pay.

    Cons

Hours can be long and overtime is frequent. They could pay a bit more but the health care is free and deductibles are low.

    Advice to Management

Train employees better, appreciate the hard labor more. Provide better advancement training to ensure the success of your employees.

I have been working at Food Services of America full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

--To start off the best pro is the "team" environment on nights. Management plays no role in this. All the order sectors in the three areas all work great together. Always willing to help. --The second pro would be the starting pay. While the pay raises are great the first year the stop after that an order sector that has been there 12yrs will make the same as one who has been there a year. So the starting pay is good for the type of work. --Five paid sick days. 3 personal holidays. And two weeks’ vacation. --Free food to bring home every so often.

    Cons

--Very long hours. Easy to hit well over 50hrs in a week. Sure overtime is great but after a while your body can’t deal with it. --Top out in pay after one year and will never go up. ($17hr) --Health insurance is complete crap. High deductible. HSA --Attendance policy is BS. They will give you a point even for family emergencies. If they send you home because you are sick, you will still get half a point. --There is no balance of work/life. --Dangerous warehouse!!!!! Racking is missing safety bolts and clips. Most is not even bolted to ground. --Mechanic guy is worthless. Your pallet could be out for weeks. --This company has made a lot of money and they keep cost down to continue to profit from the employees, the backbone. --They have employees who poisonous to the team environment. They work on days and stay late to help but never work. They only snitch and suck up to supervisors.

    Advice to Management

The reason there is a union vote going on is because how you treat employees and your greed. Also energy drinks at 3am wont make us vote no.

I worked at Food Services of America full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Company has large product offering with most anything a restaurant could need. Many opportunities for ongoing product and professional training. Ability to self direct in this position. Company 401 match. many promotions.

    Cons

Lack of staffing or support in some areas. Product conversions. Weak commissions with no car, fuel, phone or internet allowances. High deductible health plan. Loss of visionary leader.

    Advice to Management

Your employees have given much to support the vision of Tom Stewart. The recession is over, time to give back to the everyday grunts that want to be proud of the company they work for while providing for their families.

I worked at Food Services of America full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

There are some really good employees to work with, they are trying to go Union which will be really good in this right to work state.

    Cons

Benefits are no good, get ran illegally on dot hours(a lot of 20+ hour days) as soon as you say you got hurt they get on your Facebook to find comments so they can fire you. They don't fix the equipment, a lot of dot violations being wrote up and they just sign off on it and keep running it. No communication at all unless they want to chew you out. Over all my past 2 years here have not been pleasant.

    Advice to Management

Follow up with employees and here there thoughts and concerns, stop running drivers illegally and acting like it's okay. Stop calling meetings at 11 pm at night and then making drivers drive right after for 18+ hours without an ounce of sleep. Stop denying employees the basic amenities to do there job.

    Pros

Decent Pay. Union Job. Decent benifits.

    Cons

You are a driver and lumper. You will have 15-18 stops per day on your route. No problem you say,I'm a jock.Planners will heap more tonnage on you regardless if its cost effective or safe to do. EXTREMELY unsafe work environment that is you are required to do city stops deal with traffic motorists attitudes and lump off your products by a hand cart.Police can and will cite you for parking violations.Management claims they are there to help and are your friend.Think again!!! These malcontents and control freaks insist that you call them and report any and all unsafe and otherwise work related problems to them daily.Dont like being on the phone behind the wheel of a truck because its against the law?Tuff!!.Also you are required to call in 2 times a day to get any "drivers messages" that may be directed to the 180 + drivers they have in the Oregon area. There is an "old boys school" hazing type atmosphere that exits .If you are new the co workers will find a way to not like you as they are malcontents and be harassed. I was harassed daily by a "Bumper Nazi" for allegedly putting a scratch in a 2003 Freightliner's bumper. He constantly cried to his/my boss daily on the phone. Not having a family life themselves, there is alot of time to cry and complain about others. No one will help you save yourself even though you pay union dues for representation.

    Advice to Management

Get serious. You'll NEVER be the Nationwide top company with your attitudes.
