Pros
Great educational benefits for those seeking additional opportunities
Cons
long works hours in an outdated plant
Pros
Ford does not care about it's employees nor does it care about quality
Cons
Everything is a farce at Ford
Advice to Senior Management
Work the assembly line for just one day
Pros
For non/semi-skilled labor, You really can't beat the pay and benfits! Friends are easy to come by with close to 2000 people in the building at any given time.
If your lucky to get a fairly laid-back job like I lucked into, there's not much better. If you follow the guidelinesand don't mess your job up its hard to be refused a requested day off, get in trouble or even get fired.
I took an educational buyout in 2006. I miss KC, and some of the great friends I made there, but Ford payed my way through MMI, which has earned me a decent living. I've also completed nearly 70 hours of my journalism degree at OSU, courtesy of FMC. I feel like one of the lucky ones, as lots of people who took the amazing offers of Fords downsizing and pissed it away. If their new plant goes in, I will try to go back, only managment this time.
The fitness center, educational programs, and even phsycological/health problem support teams are a great asset that should be utilized by more people. The physical therapy team did wonders on my wrists and elbow when I got severe tendonitis and I was allowed time out of work each day, ON THE CLOCK! to do my physical therapy!
Cons
With the long hours, sometimes poor work conditions, and only seeing your supervisor when things go wrong, the job can wear on you and you'll end up getting mad everytime you drive through the gates sometimes.
It deffinatly takes a special personality trait to do the same job 4-600 times a night.
I can understand having to park in a seperate, back parking section if you drive a non-ford product, but the old timers vandalizing import cars got old.
The Union guys have gotten spread very thin, making it harder than in the past to get a real complaint heard, or even hear about any UAW events/news going on.
Company and Union propaganda runs rampant, and everyday is doom and gloom, it grows old.
Advice to Senior Management
Encourage your good, hardworking hourly people and find any reason you can to get the real slackers and scum bags out the door. Listen to concerns from the assembly line people and address them in a timely manner, not just when the scat hits the fan.
Pros
During my ten years at Ford Motor I have grown very much as a leader. Great pay and benefits ( one of the reasons for bad cash flow)
Cons
No one likes to buy american made cars any more so business isn't too hot. Also there are lots of slackers.
Advice to Senior Management
Senior Management should really start motivating employees and pushing ideas in order for Ford to be back on top of the automotive industry.
Pros
It's an opportunity if you need a job
Cons
environment , corporate culture, lack of innovative car designs
Advice to Senior Management
Change the negative culture and come up with some appealing car deisgns
