I have been working at Ford, Parshall & Baker

    Pros

Great name recognition in central Missouri
Engaging and substantive work, mostly on small insurance defense cases
Engage with lead attorneys and research pivotal issues
No specific hours requirement - just be seen and bill hours
    Average salary and benefits

    Cons

Virtually no management, which means no central person to solve problems or improve operations.
Political, cliquish atmosphere (if you aren't with the in crowd, you're out)
Little client interaction and almost no opportunity for advancement
Old computers and software. Also, no file/case management software.
    Few, if any, pay increases.
Employee morale is low and it effects many aspects of the firm's operations.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Designate an office manager that has the power to hire/fire staff and spend money to improve efficiencies. Update the ancient software and computers (if the computer runs on floppy disks, its costing the firm time and money). Create an employee manual. Get a file management system. Stop playing favorites; it kills morale and employees stop taking the initiative to make the practice better and more profitable. Get a decent website. Smile and talk to staff!
