I have been working at Foremost Insurance full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

Great vacation time and very good insurance

    Cons

Very particular in procedures and large departments so hard to take pto when you want

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Don't micro manage. We are grown adults and not in high school. Think about long term before you respond to problems or upgrades.

I worked at Foremost Insurance full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

They will work with you and give you a chance, but you also need to make an effort and pull your weight.

    Cons

Not much growth if you're a claims adjuster out on the field. If you live in the Grand Rapids area, then maybe the sky is the limit.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Tell your adjusters to be clear and precise when sending financial reports to the claims processors.

    I worked at Foremost Insurance

    Pros

If you have experience and like working independently, the job is great: flexible, pays alright and allows a lot of self-supervision.

    Cons

You will not get any direction, timely feedback, consistent instruction, and the formal training is not sufficient to do the job as you are expected to. If you do not already have many years of experience and are willing to hear a lot of criticism about your decisions when it's way too late to change anything, and without any real teaching, you will probably be unhappy.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

There are so many metrics that everyone is just trying to keep from being held accountable for anything at the cost of institutional learning.

    I worked at Foremost Insurance

    Pros

Job security was good. There are so many claims coming in they need the claim reps to take these claims.

    Cons

I averaged around 7-10 claims each day. On top of that you are taking calls for about 4 hours each day, not enough time to get work done.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Listen to your employess. Farmers and Foremost have a terrible reputation, it is time to clean it up and bring morale up.

I have been working at Foremost Insurance

    Pros

Fair and equitable in performance expectations and promotions and salaries are aligned with these expectations.

    Cons

There seems to be quite a hierarchical structure in place, especially now that Foremost is a subsidiary of Farmers. In many areas, your professional growth is limited to the realm of insurance.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Allow more technological innovation.

I have been working at Foremost Insurance

    Pros

A lot of nice people to work with. Many people been there a long time. The facilities are really really nice.

    Cons

They are considering outsourcing all of IT. It is a decision from the parent company Farmers/Zurich. The cafeteria is way to expensive.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

If you really value employees you will not outsource them. We do a lot of "unfunded" work efforts that would never get done in an outsourced environment.
