A great experience as a first job

Sales Associate (Former Employee)
Brea, CA

I worked at Forever 21 part-time for less than a year

ProsMost sales associates are in their teens and early twenties so it is a great place to make friends. It gave me my first peek at the world of retail. The experience also made me appreciate any subsequent jobs I had because you are really busting your hump there.

ConsThis was my first job and it was physically tiring as I wasn't used to being on my feet walking around for hours and hours. The pay was minimum wage and the discount basically amounted to the CA state tax (10%). I remember staying past 1AM for some closing shifts because the store was so messy. I quit after a few weeks as did many others.

Advice to Senior ManagementManagers seemed to show some favoritism with regards to scheduling

Excellent experience

Sales Associate/Cashier (Current Employee)

I have been working at Forever 21 part-time for less than a year

ProsThis is an excellently managed company. I always felt valued as an employee, and never minded coming in to work. As a sales associate and cashier, I never was worried about approaching my managers with questions or issues, and I think that is incredibly valuable.

ConsEach store has its own challenges. I worked in a pretty rough area, but the management was understanding and helped us to deal with any problems that arose.

If you can make it here you can make it anywhere.

Visual Manager (Current Employee)
Sacramento, CA

I have been working at Forever 21 full-time for more than 5 years

ProsLearn how to work and think fast, you are challenged everyday in every possible way.

ConsHigh stress, low pay, vacation and sick pay are lumped into one. It takes a year to earn 40 hrs of paid time off.

Advice to Senior ManagementThey are out of touch with how and what you have to do on the sales floor as far as scheduling, realistic time frames, operational and visual need to be more supportive of each other. Some upper management run there stores like its there on company and they implement things that the company doesn't do.

Sales Associate (Former Employee)
New York, NY

I worked at Forever 21 part-time for less than a year

ProsFun working environment, can make great friends, Good teamwork effort, pay is not bad,

Cons10% discount, have to be part time for a year before getting promoted to full time, HAVE to be doing something during down hours even when theres nothing to do. Customers can be very rude, lines can get very long and hectic

Never Again

Assistant Store Manager (Former Employee)
Atlanta, GA

I worked at Forever 21 full-time for less than a year

ProsFashion forward clothing
Good starting pay for employees
Can learn a lot of the industry

ConsThere are a lot of sketchy things that go on in this company that are against federal policies : needless to say the number of times its been sued by former employees and getting fines by OSHA. High turnover rate. No real work-life balance for full time staff. Pop up with crazy work hours. Doesn't really create an open communication environment.

Advice to Senior ManagementI don't even know if it's management, it starts higher up than that. Management needs to manage, not babysit and treat people like they have sense not like kids. Also needs to stop draining management at a store level

The job is a complete burden, always a mess and not worth my time.

Sales Associate (Current Employee)
The Woodlands, TX

I have been working at Forever 21 full-time for less than a year

ProsReason i stuck around was for a paycheck.

ConsTotal chaos, some people work others are stupid and slack off, people make a mess constantly and the managers are of no help.
