In my time I have seen this company go from being really troubled to one that is performing very well.

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee) Cincinnati, OH

ProsStrong management team, great brand, healthy culture and financially sound organization. It is a very people oriented company with alot of teamwork. Overall a good place to work.

ConsLimited growth in the marketplace. This impacts the number of career opportunities available.

Advice to Senior ManagementKeep pursuing the current path and build the brand. Keep investing in new products and technology.

    Good people, horrible management

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

ProsPeople are passionate about what they do, if they're where they want to be. Everyone is generally good to work with and easy to communicate to.

ConsCompany seems to want to spend a lot of money in many areas including hot shot new hires instead of training and compensating current employees. Expect an endless list of priority one projects, difficult to manage family and work like at times, little to no advancement opportunities from within, management under values most of it's employees, management fails to solve reoccurring problems.

Advice to Senior ManagementOffer more input, training, and opportunities for advancement. Offer flexible work schedule, opportunity to work from home. Remember...consistent little words of encouragement to employees goes a long way. You will earn their respect by letting them know how much you care if they succeed. Remember, you succeed when they do.

I miss it. If you don't fit in, be ready for harrassment.

    Electrician (Current Employee) Cincinnati, OH

ProsWork independently, and if you like challenges

ConsCommunication is a big factor. They have meetings but no clear details. Like what was the problem when first call. Some pass Downs are they had troubles getting it running. Need everything that was tried and checked, so that next shift don't spend 4 to 6 hours doing the same thing. !!!!!! "Communication! "!!!!!!

Advice to Senior ManagementGet to know a person, don't listen to what others say.

    Well Established American Business Icon.

Territory Sales Representative (Former Employee) Sacramento, CA

ProsThe company has changed ownership a few times over the last several decades and for the most part has stayed true to its core values of supplying quality products to a changing housing and design market.

ConsThey had a manufacturing plants in Roseville, CA and Reading, OH. Under one of the ownership groups a few years ago, they decided to close the California operation because of the high property values and the promise of immediate high profits on the sale of said real estate. This move hindered the company's ability to service the west coast in the same manner they had historically done for three decades.

Advice to Senior ManagementThink long-term; which is hard to do if you are a management group that is looking to come in make a quick profit ("pick the low hanging fruit") and sell the company to someone else.

    My experience a big disappointment

Senior Accountant (Current Employee) Cincinnati, OH

ProsThe best reason to work at Formica is the location in Evendale, Ohio. Most of the lower level employees are friendly to work with.

ConsFormica is a company that still believe in the good old boys network in order to advance. They is no one in human resources that you can go to if you have problems. If they do not like you, when lay offs come around you will be part of it. Formica does not believe in promoting minorites. You will find them all in one department and very unhappy.

Advice to Senior ManagementFormica needs to realize that the employees there are really good people. They would like to come to work and be treated with some respect and dignity. Formica need to develop their staff and manangement group that represents the makeup of the community of Cincinnati. Certain individuals should have been fired a long time ago. Other left the company and were welcome back with open arms with a promotion upon coming back.
