Disappointing - principals look the other way if a teacher is their friend. Lack of morals.

I worked at Fort Bend ISD full-time

    Pros

There are some great people working their, but sadly, if you are trying to do the right thing, you are in a minority.

    Cons

The district does not rotate their staff - some of their teachers and principals have been doing the same job for over 20 years. If you are in tight with an administrator, you can pretty much get away with anything - including coming in late everyday with a hangover.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Move employees around - to different schools at least every three years and tell principals that they have a 20 min. lunch just like everyone else. There are some admins that take a 1.5 hour lunch every day. And the admins put on a show when they know someone from the district is coming in.

I have been working at Fort Bend ISD full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Worked with a close knit faculty and under many great administrators; encouraging of making time for self and family

    Cons

Usual pitfalls of working in education - too much paperwork, lack of responsibility in the kids and parents; over emphasis on testing and assessments

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

A new superintendent this school year (2013-14) seems to be having a positive effect on employees.

I have been working at Fort Bend ISD full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

-New superintendent who is personable and readily listens to his employees/staff/community
    -Nice salary for teaching
    -Moving towards implementing more technology

    Cons

Though not clearly stated, I receive a lot of pressure to get students to perform on standardized testing despite not having all the resources to truly prepare students for life beyond high school and for the new state-mandated test. The idea that making most learning team-based is NOT necessarily applicable nor sincere preparation for college.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Advice: Campus leaders should lead by example. Too often, requests for information are made at the last minute, and the information requested isn't reviewed and feedback given for improvement. There are constant thinly veiled threats about connecting my job to student performance on a standardized test that was just released last year! Plus, there are not too many resources to tap into for practice for the test because it is so new. Although, I am told NOT to teach to a test.
