ProsI enjoyed being surrounded by very intelligent people with a deep insight of the market. Everyone was very good at their respective jobs.

ConsThere could have been more communication and collaboration. It always seemed as though everybody is extremely busy and therefore they don't always take the time to explain how their decisions will affect you.

Advice to Senior ManagementSend more memos or otherwise communicate to employees better.

    Great experience

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

ProsVery involved and active work environment. A lot of deals pass by your table so you get to acquire an insight into different market cap, sector etc . companies and different valuation and financing methods.

ConsNot very organized and 'one firm' culture is not implemented that well. Different parts of the company ( private equity, hedge fund etc...) are mostly treated as separate entities even when they could be leveraging each other.

Advice to Senior ManagementIn junior levels leadership and mentorship program is adequate . - can be better.
ALso because it is a public company sometimes it is hard to judge senior managements interests.

Like the people, but excessive turnover

Analyst (Former Employee) New York, NY

ProsReasonably flexible investment approach, people willing to get creative. There are a number of very smart individuals, not all, but most.

ConsA little unstable, can make jerky reactions to markets and major strategic changes based on temporary market conditions. I was satisfied with my pay package but have heard from a lot of people who weren't.

Advice to Senior ManagementMake it a more consistent environment. Turnover is a killer for a business like this, keep your strongest performing employees, don't lose them over a few dollars of comp, continue to prune the weeds like you do.

ProsMONEY, bonuses etc. Great access to the latest technology. Company spares no expense to do things efficiently.

ConsLong hours, cut-throat corporate environment, lack of civic responsibility. Not family-friendly.

Advice to Senior ManagementMoney isn't everything.

Challenging yet very satisfying at the end!

Software Engineer (Former Employee) New York, NY

    ProsGreat work environment
Employees are taken good care of
Get to learn lot of new technologies, they won't hesitate to put in capital for the applications
Small IT team hard work is recognized very well, juniors' ideas are also heard.

    ConsLess work life balance.
    24/7 critical support applications.

Advice to Senior ManagementIT teams and applications, more application learning sessions should be conducted so that more departments drop the act of maintaining separate IT teams and come under one roof for better results and savings.

    Liquid Markets Summer Analyst

Capital Formation Group Summer Analyst (Former Employee) New York, NY

ProsLearn a lot and get lots of exposure to a variety of markets.
Small teams and lots of access to VPs and MDs.
Got to do "real" work as an intern on Wall St... most other summer analysts can't say the same.

ConsCulture is a very aggressive one. If you are not a cultural fit (i.e. very aggressive personality) will not fit into this particular group. However, this group is not representative of other groups at Fotress.

Yes, I would recommend this company to a friend – I'm optimistic about the outlook for this company
