I worked at Fossil part-time for more than a year

    Pros

casual laid back environment; learning about sales; great products; 50% discount, even on sale items.

    Cons

too much emphasis on sales; lack of mobility; not enough hours. Your sales are tied to hours.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I would highly suggest to not put so much emphasis on sales on individuals. It can create much stress.

I have been working at Fossil

    Pros

The product is cool and Fossil as an idea is great. A lot of the sales associates you meet and work with are incredible people.

    Cons

I've been here for 4 years and recently (but reluctantly) took the third key position. Upper management hardly looks out for the associates and there is a huge divide among the store between management and the team because of their inability to see things in the eyes of an associate. Corporate is even worse bringing terrible new ideas to the table in ways of running the store and presenting product. Corporate also lets customers walk all over associates with the "Customers always right rule".

Also don't expect good pay or for your pay to raise. In fact expect new hires to make more that you even after 3 years of working at Fossil.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

My advice to management is to stop, listen, and learn from your team. They are your backbone. I joined management in hopes that I could be the voice of my associates.

I worked at Fossil part-time for more than a year

    Pros

Pay was decent and the store discount is amazing.

    Cons

Store managers take advantage of sales reps, and are mostly incompetent. Horrible work schedules, and the managers make you feel inferior.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Hire better store managers. Make sure they ENCOURAGE employees, not put them down.

I have been working at Fossil full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Employee discount, even though after working there for 4 months, I still have not been set up by HR to actually use it.

    Cons

Store and District Management is incompetent. Hires staff with little or no experience or has criminal backgrounds (doesn't follow company guidelines on background checks). Employee morale and motivation is low. There is no communication between management members or management and the staff. Training and coaching is inconsistent. This is one of the worst companies I have ever worked for.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Actually spend some time with your team in the store, ask them questions and get to know them. Stop making blanket assumptions about your managers and encourage communication. Hold your Store Managers accountable for following company policies and working a fair schedule (Store managers don't punch in or out often taking advantage that no one sees what they are actually "working"). Listen to your staff, including your part time associates, they care about their work environment and want a voice.
