Four Seasons...Beautiful hotels

Food and Beverage Manager (Former Employee)

I worked at Four Seasons full-time for more than 5 years

ProsVery fulfilling job. You will work with the best in the service industry. Most that work for Four Seasons have a true passion for their careers. Nice benefits that include complimentary stays at any Four Seasons (if available) and their 401K is solid. Another nice thing about working at FS was that most departments have more staff than other hotels because they need to provide luxury service. You will have an opportunity to work at some of the most beautiful places in the world if your willing to relocate.

ConsThere are many layers of management and a lot of decisions are made by executives that are not in touch with the ground level departments. In order to purchase the tools you need to do your job it will take weeks / months to receive ordered tools / materials. The salaries they pay their managers are average at best and raises each year are 1-3% of you current base salary. The raises apply to every manager in the hotel whether you are a high performer or a low hanging fruit, you will all get the same increase. Most FS managers that progress quickly are not born in the USA. Due to most departments staffing heavy the bottom line suffers greatly at Four Seasons, this has caused a lot of tension and even separation between the property owners and FS. The properties that have Unions will be much harder to work in as there is much more red tape in disciplining hourly employees.

Advice to Senior ManagementListen to the department heads and assistant managers more. Before making decisions ask them their opinions. You should make raises based on performance and merit rather than simply giving the same increase to all the managers at the property.

Practice What You Preach

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)
Santa Fe, NM

I worked at Four Seasons full-time

ProsMaybe good in a big city but not in a small community.

ConsThe attitude of "saving us" was unnecessary towards employees as the resort was already 5-diamond.
Not friendly with local community. Got rid of all but 2 local managers. Only wanted their out-of-state people.

Advice to Senior ManagementPractice the "treat others as you would have them treat you" motto that was constantly repeated. Never saw the action, only heard it - frequently.

good not great need to focus on development of the good people not the yes men,

Manager (Current Employee)
Carlsbad, CA

I have been working at Four Seasons full-time for more than a year

Prosgreat bennies. good people. The other managers are great and I have met wonderful people. HR is super helpful.

Consshity life work balance. 80=100 hour weeks in F&B. Can go months with out a day off. Use managers to fill in for line staff. Upper management dos not want to pay for full time work and works there assistant managers into the ground. They will be lucky to keep the really good people at this pace. looks like only the idiots will keep working and move up in this company. Just biding my time until I have enough years under the belt to move on.

Advice to Senior Managementquite being so self absorbed and playing games with your managers. We practicably live together. it is no reason to pit one another against the other...from Carlsbad, ca
