Pros
Work hard and you'll make alot of money. They are great about working around school, 2nd jobs family, etc! Fun environment, especially during sporting events!
Cons
Some nights require you to work long hours ( but the money is worth it). Management can be a little power trip(y) at times! Uniform is ok.
Advice to Senior Management
For your employees that have been working at one of your bars for a while ( over 3 years) should get treated better.
Pros
Monthly bonus. Freedom to try new things. Fun. Great if you are a young, early career, single person.
Cons
Open 365. 0 work life balance. Work on off days (conference calls), over night cleaning. Substandard benefits package.
Advice to Senior Management
Stream line the philosophy.
Pros
People tip well. The food isn't bad, so people don't usually get upset about that. Management doesn't breathe down your neck as you work. The environment is pretty fun and fast paced.
Cons
The managers do not communicate with the staff outside of meetings, except to tell staff to go do something. The management seems disconnected with the staff, which may explain why the company has such a high employee turnover rate. So many people apply to work at F&H that the management doesn't seem to value employees. The restaurant is divided into several sections, but only has one kitchen- making it very difficult to get food out to customers. The hostesses often have to run all over the restaurant to find a member of the wait staff and tell them they have a table. This creates huge problems that result in customers leaving before they even order, and it happens on an almost daily basis.
Advice to Senior Management
I referred to the problem of customers not being greeted, and leaving before they order. The problem could easily be fixed by installing closed-circuit cameras in strategic locations throughout the restaurant (especially the patio) and implementing simpler methods of communication- like headsets and smarter registers. Fewer hostesses would have to be paid to work, and could concentrate better on their actual job- to make customers feel welcome and comfortable.
Pros
Cash in hand daily. easy menu to learn and start up within a week of employement acceptance. great during sports seasons if your a fan since you spend half your time watching the games with your guests.
Cons
High turnaround rate for not only hourly employees but management as well. slow, slow, slow afternoons so good luck making rent if your stuck with daytime shifts in the dining area prior to 5.
Advice to Senior Management
if an hourly employee is interested in pursuing management then better communication and opportunities should be opened if the employee is a qualified candidate. had to pursur MIT myself by paying out of my own pocket to apply with a training store 3 hours away.
Pros
Fox & Hound provides room for advancement to the right person even if you're starting at the bottom.
Cons
Emphasis on customers will sometimes overshadow the company's focus on keeping its employees happy.
Advice to Senior Management
Please heed a lot of your employees' advice concerning environment and bar culture because it comes directly from customers' suggestions.
Pros
This is a good place to start your carrier as a manager, unfortunately they tend to only hire managers with experience.
Cons
the higher you go up the chain the more out of touch the managers seem to be with how a restaurant stays successful. The corp policy start to make it more and more difficult to satisfy the guest. Too much time is spent dealing with the needs of the corporate office.
Advice to Senior Management
remember who you really work for and whats important to those people.
Pros
Fun, laid back environment
Easy to trade shifts with other employees
Cons
Management picks favorite employees that consistently are assigned better shifts/sections/etc.
Food is slow getting out to costumers
Advice to Senior Management
Some managers are great whereas others can't and don't even try to relate with the employees. Also, the servers compete with each other, often making the work environment almost cut-throat. Why not encourage your serving team to act as a team?
Pros
The involvement in the operations and freedom of action available to mgmt. Being involved in the community with the position. The ability to create and execute ideas with certain levels of freedom.
Cons
Long hours, very little career growth, very poor time management from a corporate view. A corporate philosophy that is taken from the current management book of the day and a belief of repeating terms from the books will make people believe them. Instead of creating a true culture that is unique to the company. A tired belief in personality profiles that limit people due to what they put on a simple test.
Advice to Senior Management
Invest in keeping employees instead of churn & burn.
