    Relies on overtime.

Program Manager (Former Employee) Santa Clara, CA

ProsLearn about manufacturing for Consumer products industry. Exposure to a lot of great companies. Opportunity to witness first hand very large scale manufacturing. Get to experience first hand how competitive the manufacturing industry is for consumer products in Asia.

ConsI don't think anyone minds occasional overtime, but this company relies on overtime, which is very unfair to the employee as you work many more hours for the same amount of pay. Equivalently, you are getting paid less.

Management can be very stubborn, inflexible, and suppressive. All PTO has to go through approval of General Manager, and most requests are denied, which is ridiculous. This type of thing can be relied on the ethics of the employees, especially overseas staff since they already work so many overtime hours, to control personally. Sometimes, employees would just not take PTO, to avoid the hassle of the application process.

A lot of hypocritical policies that you will never learn about until you enter the company. Such as "for every Saturday you work in China, you get a day off aside from your PTO, to go back home." This is not true, because when you go back home you are still required to work at your home-base office. Effectively stealing more time from you to get free work out of you.

    A World Apart

Product Engineer (Former Employee) Houston, TX

ProsCulturally diverse (but stratified), intense, fascinating, huge opportunities if you can tame chaos. A dynamic environment where team builders have a good shot at creating effective and satisfying change within a limited scope. International travel is possible and probable.

ConsRazor thin margins, never ending reorganization, poor retention efforts (high turnover), and minimalism in all things, keeps problems from ever really getting fixed. Maturity model has made little progress for a company 10 years into the ODM space.

Advice to Senior ManagementTake lessons from the engineering infrastructure your customer once built to become an industry leader, and make appropriate investments to create or enhance the infrastructure needed to support the full spectrum he is outsourcing to you. He's seeded a great deal of the technical brain-trust on hand and is expecting propagation and growth into a true ODM supplier role to support his targeted business model without having to compromise product quality.

Foxconn working conditions in Houston compare to the poor working conditions at Foxconn factories in southern China.

Production Supervisor (Former Employee) Houston, TX

ProsThe health and dental insurance is paid for by Foxconn for the employee.

ConsPasswords are shared by multiple users for SAP, Oracle, and EFox material management systems. Difficult to track what individuals performed various transactions. Very little resources are employed for plant, equipment, employee training, or accurate process documentation. The restrooms and break areas for employees are horrible.

Advice to Senior ManagementManagement should take a look at the high turnover for both exempt and non-exempt employees and determine what corrective processes are needed and make the needed corrections.

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend
