Decent job, but nothing to get excited about.

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)
    Washington, DC

Pros-Lots of young people in the office
-Opportunity for a lot of overtime pay
    -Commitment to diversity

Cons-Work is all about volume, volume, volume
-Extreme distrust between supervisors and staff leads to constant unease
-Very high turnover, even among long-tenured employees

Advice to Senior ManagementFoster more of a team environment among all levels of the office, and give the young, talented people in the office more opportunities to shine instead of doing the same monotonous work day after day.

    Assistant Paralegal

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)
    New York, NY

ProsLarge firm. Wide range of exposure to immigration issues. Salary.

ConsSome of the attorneys were not very nice, demanding and didn't explain the work clearly. Also, you work under a senior paralegal, and don't have direct contact with attorneys.

Advice to Senior ManagementBring back some of the perks that were taken away.

    Paralegals Aren't Appreciated

    Assistant Paralegal (Former Employee)
    Santa Clara, CA

ProsThe people are nice. Salary is pretty good for entry level

ConsVery slow upward mobility for paralegals. Raises are very minimal and occur annually if at all given.
There is a very clear divide between paralegals and attorneys. The paralegals are basically the very bottom of the food chain. They seem to work the hardest/most, but aren't appreciated. Rather, paralegals are only noticed when they make a mistake and not when they do good work.
Not very good benefits for paralegals

    Management needs improvement ASAP

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)
    Chicago, IL

    Pros*Good benefits
*Support staff (paralegals & administrative assistants) are very nice

Cons*Need better HR personnel to support staff in an appropriate manner
*They allow higher management to bully younger staff members and blame them for mistakes although there is not proper training to teach them differently
*They don't respect support staff, even though they do 90% of the work and have great reviews from direct people they work with

Advice to Senior ManagementMake sure you focus on the support staff, no playing favorites, and stop letting many people in the office get bullied.

    Unappreciated, low pay, boring work

    Paralegal (Former Employee)

ProsThe paralegals were fun to work with. Amongst the paralegal, we helped each other out and became like a family. Learned the most from other fellow paralegals.

ConsWhere to start...the managing partner is on a power trip and makes rule that are so ridiculous but are only meant to further his power within the firm. paralegals get all the blame for mistakes and there is very little training. anything done correctly is usually credited to the attorneys. people are constantly getting laid off and fired and all paralegals are in fear that they are next. there are few events that show any employment appreciation. although there defiantly are some supervisors that sympathize with the paralegal's poor treatment, majority of the higher staff are not willing nor have the time to train the paralegals properly. In addition, the company hires majority of their staff with little experience allowing them to pay extremely minimally. For such a big internationally known firm, you would think the pay would be a bit more decent especially with the amount of money the partners are making.

Advice to Senior ManagementI don't think things will change until the partners learn to respect their employees. Try showing appreciation and don't allow your paralegals to be dreading every day of work.
