    reporter in a foreign bureau

    Reporter (Former Employee) Tokyo (Japan)

ProsFrance's international TV channel. Could be a good platform.

ConsDifficult to do quality TV news within a limited budget. Editors in Paris are too controlling. The newly launched website is a disaster.

Advice to Senior Managementreally need to recruit experienced editors that are knowledgeable in their beats!

    Company lacks direction and ambition

Assistant Producer (Current Employee) Paris (France)

    Pros*Friendly colleagues
*Good location, easy to reach from Paris
*Staff canteen has good, subsidised meals

    Cons*Colleagues can be unprofessional
    *Low editorial standards
*Heavy workload rewarded with low pay
*Management and employees lack ambition and drive

Advice to Senior ManagementLift editorial standards and aim to send reporters into the field. Instead of continually saying the company cannot compete with more experienced 24-hour news channels, define clear goals to differentiate yourself from the competition. Reward motivated staff with a career path.

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend – I'm not optimistic about the outlook for this company

    Good people, baffling management

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee) Paris (France)

ProsExcellent colleagues from all over the world, good atmosphere and the job is fun.
The work keeps expats like this reviewer in Paris.
    The money's OK.

ConsThe problems with this company are all at the top.
Good people get promoted on merit, then fired because they seem pose a threat to 'La Direction'.
Senior union reps tend to get top jobs by virtue of being union reps and not because they are any good.
Mediocre middle managers don't get sacked, they get promoted sideways and forgotten about.
And underneath are lots of happy and hard-working journalists who wouldn't touch a management opportunity with a bargepole.

the worst experience I have had in my ten year career in broadcasting

    Journalist (Former Employee) Paris (France)

ProsIt does provide English journalists with an opportunity to work on a daily live broadcast

ConsHowever, the pay is the minimum compared to others in the Industry
They like to hire young, highly inexperienced journalists who they can manipulate with fear
The management team is very unprofessional and does not give you any feedback
Their expectations are ridiculous compared to what they offer in compensation

Advice to Senior ManagementHire people who actually have experience and can manage a daily broadcast
There are a lot of people on the management team who claim to have a lot of experience but it is obvious that they are just as lost as the young freelancers they hire
News is not subjective to your opinion it is fact based and not meant to be manipulated based on your own prejudices
If you are going to have an English news desk then make sure that the people running the desk can speak English.

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend
