I have been working at Francesca's Collections part-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

The job is flexible with students in high school and college. Francesca's allows employees to have creative freedom in the boutiques while following company wide fashion trends. Each boutique has different merchandise, which makes styling mannequins and selling to guests easy, fun and unique. Because the boutiques are of such a small size, it is easy to create a clientele base with guests that you are able to get to know and recognize when they enter the boutique. There is a decent discount for employees: 30% (could be higher, but decent). The company tries to promote from within so moving up in the company is easy if the opportunity arises for employees.

    Cons

Upper management (District Managers and Regional Directors) are rarely in sync with one another. A DM can tell a boutique to do one thing and then the RD will say something completely different. The upper management is incredibly out of touch with the way that the boutiques are run on a day to day basis, and therefore do not understand why stores do not make their day goals everyday, why KPIs are lower on one day than the last, etc.. District managers make a store visit maximum two times a month and with a company that is expanding and growing, there are many changes happening but no corporate representative in the boutique to guarantee that changes are made correctly, which hurts boutiques and makes managers feel alone and completely lost in what they are needed to do. Managers are also given many tasks to complete on a small time frame regularly. However, they are not granted additional pay roll to do so, resulting in tasks being nearly impossible to complete efficiently or on time.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Slow down. This company is so driven on expanding and opening more stores that the stores that are already open are being neglected. DMs and RDs need to have a better understanding of what they are asking of employees and that the expectations they have are too high for the amount of work being done. Also, Francesca's Promise is nearly impossible to complete with every guest and is actually pushing guests out of boutiques. It is too similar to "pressure shopping" and boutique managers should not be scrutinized for not over pushing their employees to complete the Promise with each guest.

I have been working at Francesca's Collections full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Great hours and opportunities for promotions. You get to really make the store yours, and because of the small amount of employees it's like a littlew close family

    Cons

Management contradicts themselves and the pay is not the greatest. Not enough hours given to store for scheduling all employees.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Show more appreciation to the employees instead of always criticizing

    Pros

Freedom of creativity. Good discount. Cute products

    Cons

Pay is awful. No work life balance. Home office is completely unorganized. No continuity from very high up to in store. Constantly changing and can't adjust.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop changing things so radically and quickly. Too much pressure on the employees. Need to let employees have a better work life balance. If you work there too long it will crush your soul.

I worked at Francesca's Collections full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Hired as a Key Holder and promoted to part-time Assistant Manager within 6 months. After another year, was transferred to a second location and promoted to full-time Assistant Manager. Pretty much stuck at that position though was told opportunities may be available in the future. Stayed with company for 4 years.
90% of customers were cool, visuals were fun and creative per individual boutique, shipment was constant but not overwhelming (most of the time), daily responsibilities could easily be delegated, and always had a dependable staff.

    Cons

Company has changed a lot from when I started. Trying to be a lot more "trendy" than before it was about a unique product and styling. Seems to be trying to be more appealing to a younger audience (high school/college vs 18-35 like mission statement)
Communication between DM/RM is "open", but was sometimes a struggle to even get an email reply let alone a phone conversation.
Company was/is growing quickly, and upper management positions and titles changed quickly. At 4 years of service there were very few people that I knew from my onboarding that were still there when I finally left.

I worked at Francesca's Collections part-time (less than a year)

    Pros

Clothing, accessories and gifts are adorable and reasonably priced. You also get a 30% discount if you work there. Lots of locations so it's easy to find another item if sold out at your location, or on the website which is pretty decent.

    Cons

The company is still operating like it still only has one location, but it now has over 500 and it needs to be running more efficiently. Like taking inventory and caring about loss prevention by putting sensors on the clothes, paying overtime to the managers who work over 40 hours a week, allowing seasonal employees to use the register and get credit for sales since they have to sell anyways, and a system to request product that we've run out of or the management should just know that and send us what we need.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Start running the business like it's 2015 and you have 500+ stores.

    I worked at Francesca's Collections

    Pros

The company flourishes off of your creativity and what you can contribute to the boutique. They push that you have a good flare for pairing colors and patterns.
Good communication throughout the local stores.
    Good contact with DM/RM.
Highly recommend a very outgoing personality and superior customer service to really stand out here.

    Cons

The company is starting to change to into big corporation which comes with many changes that customers, associates and manager may find hard to get accustom to.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Depend on your assistant managers a little more and spread the hours out throughout your team to really benefit off of what they have to offer, and to give you time to relax. My former manager runs two boutiques and averages about 70+ hours a week, but if the stores were allowed more payroll for hours she would be able to evenly distribute that among her assistant managers and associates.

I have been working at Francesca's Collections part-time (less than a year)

    Pros

On the bright side, the pay is decent, and the employee discount is good at 30%. You get to work in a cute environment while basically learning everything. The schedule is flexible, since it's basically up to you to find someone to cover your shift. Because it's a small workplace, you can become friends with all your coworkers, which makes working there more fun. Also, you have a good amount of control over how you want the boutique to look. Every day offers a different experience. It's good for a short-term job.

    Cons

Even if you're experienced in retail, the learning curve is tough. There's a lot you have to know and understand quickly, but they do a decent job training and understanding. Because there's so much to do, it can lead to frustration if it seems like someone's not pulling their weight. There can be drama. There can also be confusion because there's always so many promotions going on, and every day there's something different. Oh, and the clothing and jewelry is pricey and of low quality.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Know what you want, be organized, limit promotions. Also, the details of Francesca's Promise has the potential of driving away customers. The products are too pricey for their quality, and we get complaints all the time. Good employees are being driven away because of a workplace that sucks in the long run.

    Boutique associate ABOUT

Former Employee - Boutique Associate in Columbus, OH

    I worked at Francesca's Collections part-time

    Pros

training was quick, paid weekly, dress nicely, and 30% off full retail price

    Cons

the clothes are pricey, our store was small, so when it's a busy friday afternoon the store will be packed to the point where you cannot move anywhere, personally it gave me a headache. My manager would send me 30 minutes across town to work at another location with out asking me and she'll tell me last minute which was extremely annoying. They write the schedules on a piece of paper and it's no where to be found online (location varies)

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

let your workers know these changes ahead of time!
