I worked at Franciscan Hospital for Children full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

The mission of the hospital is wonderful. You can tell the employees that are engaged are there for the good of the children.

    Cons

Senior Management need training, especially with their people skills. The majority of them sit on the 3rd floor (their Ivory Tower) and rarely venture out to take a pulse of the organization. Benefits are not competitive, in spite of what they tell you during the interview process. Salaries are ridiculously low and not competitive with the Boston market. Employees don't have a voice, most decisions are made in promoting the reputation of the new CEO.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Listen to what your employees are saying! Walk the halls, talk the talk and reward/recognize your employees. Some of the senior management staff have been there too long. Need to reorganize and move them out!

unethical management that filters down from the top; environment that breeds mediocrity

I worked at Franciscan Hospital for Children

    Pros

The mission, the children some of the direct care managers- really wanted to make a difference. Free parking. Good training programs for entry level positions.

    Cons

salaries 15 - 30 % under market. Marginal benefits, no pay incentive plans

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Develop some incentive plans; pay for performance to increase salaries of your performers. More transparency is needed to build trust and improve moral. Do away with extravagant holiday parties; and invest in benefits, tuition, STD,summer gathering, etc. Have more lunch - staff appreciation or holiday/summer luncheons at no cost.

I worked at Franciscan Hospital for Children

    Pros

The children are wonderful. There is nothing better than going to work and feeling like these children are apart of your family, their smiles, personalities make it worth it.

    Cons

The pay was low, however, the over time was always available.

Management was not available for feedback or guidance for time-sensitive behavior plans for residents.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Acknowledge your staff. Be more available to deal with behavioral issues. Show more compassion towards the residents and take an active interest in their personal growth and development.
