    Pros

The people that work at Magid are all very bright and are among the best at what they do. Magid has the capabilities to conduct all kinds of qualitative and quantitative research projects.

    Cons

Since they have been in business for decades, they believe they can charge a much higher fee than competing research companies. If you are Managing Director charged with doing new business development, it is often difficult to close a new research account because of the fierce competitive landscape. There are so many research companies who are very willing to charge less for the same product.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Consider being a bit more flexible in pricing projects.

I have been working at Frank N. Magid Associates, Inc full-time

    Pros

Its a great opportunity to work with and learn from some incredibly smart people.Work can be both independent and collaborative.

    Cons

Internal communication and management communication leave much to be desired. There is no real formal training and sometimes few introductions. People working in different industries may as well be working at different companies because there isn't a usable, centralized source of information about projects, guidelines, etc.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

A company can be to 'flat.' Have more transparency with titles and organization and a more uniform introduction for new employees.

I have been working at Frank N. Magid Associates, Inc full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Friendly coworkers and the job responsibility is very easy. Te responsibility is calling numbers with the hopes of conducting a research study regarding tv programs and pilots.

    Cons

The work hours are usually from 7-11:30 and you have to work on Sundays. Most people rather not be bothered during dinner hours (6-7 p.m.). Therefore, you may not get any surveys completed during this time. The pay is not the best, usually minimum wage.

    Pros

    Fair management and great experience

    Cons

Since they've been in business for over 52 years, they think they can demand a very large margin. This created problems for me as a sales person since I was constantly being outbid by a significant amount.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be consistent in how you price your projects among all MD's and consider accepting a lower margin.

    Pros

In a word: learning. You cannot get out of the way of learning opportunities. It is expected that everyone working at the company will have an area of expertise, as such one is encouraged to develop the expertise. It is a highly entrepreneurial environment. If you have a good idea, then pursue it -- as long as your day job still gets done. Compensation and flexibility are awesome.

    Cons

Internal communication and management communication are terrible. There is no formal training. No introductions. No centralized knowledge area where people can learn about projects, areas of expertise, etc. No company meetings. Essentially, you work as an independent contractor within a small company. It can be brutal.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Make compensation and titles more transparent. Focus more on honesty with clients and less on the bottom line whenever possible. Do something to help centralize company resources.

I worked at Frank N. Magid Associates, Inc

    Pros

Got to work on some interesting and creative projects with an interesting mix of methods. By and large nice people in the office.

    Cons

Everyone is on their own, No support or training is offered. Becomes a sweat factory. With no seeming awareness of human costs.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Your business' reputation is also effected by the quality of work one offers - actual creative insights that come from things other than sweat.

    Helpful management that care
Stayed in contact after leaving company and remain close contacts
    Quiet and friendly office

    Cons

The Iowa location is not very convenient or desirable
Equipment and technology were outdated-need upgrades for viewing video, editing etc.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I had a great experience while working at Magid. Managers and colleagues were helpful. A great place to work in general.
