    Pros

Fantastic team of professionals. Highly intelligent, collaborative and engaging to work with. You get to work on really exciting, high level projects that make an impact.

    Cons

No formal training program. You need to learn on the job which can be stressful. I was fortunate to be mentored by terrific senior analysts which helped enormously.

    Pros

If you're really into understanding how customers interact with media on a variety of platforms, this is the place for you. You'll have an opportunity to work with many of the top content providers and platforms across the board. Management and oversight is pretty hands off and there's no way to get bogged down in any hierarchies. Compensation is highly dependent on the revenue of the projects you sell or are assigned to - which can obviously work both to your advantage or your detriment. Good if its an expensive project that doesn't take all of your bandwidth, but there can be $30k projects that are as much work as a $300k one.

    Cons

There have been some pretty significant organizational changes lately, and there's still quite a bit of uncertainty surrounding that. Only time will tell if the current strategy will last. As previously mentioned, there isn't much in the way of training, information sharing, or clear career paths. You either find your niche or you don't, and if you don't your tenure will be short here. And if your niche suddenly caves in and/or you can't find new projects to be assigned to, you also will also find yourself to be seen as replaceable.

    Advice to Management

I strongly doubt that management will be reading this, but I believe that many employees feel that their jobs are somewhat vulnerable at this time. Concrete and ongoing steps to reassure otherwise (if true) would be valuable.

    Pros

There are many opportunities to work on unique projects with clients in all verticals.

    Cons

Candidates within the company are often overlooked for new opportunities and positions. There is no formal training or hiring process. Communication company-wide is poor.

    Advice to Management

Create a formal training process for new employees. Management should be more involved and have an understanding of employee workload, strengths, weaknesses, and goals.

I have been working at Frank N. Magid Associates, Inc full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Depending on the office you report to, Magid can be the most, rewarding, inspiring and collaborative place. Everything they do is in the best interest of their clients. The people on the team I work with are always thinking outside the box and make sure to go above and beyond and really help each other and get along. Really smart people work here!

    Cons

A major part of what they do is understand consumer behavior. Unfortunately, consumers do not live, work and play in a 9a-5p window so this is not a standard office job. There can be late nights, long hours and a lot of travel. If you are looking for a job to clock in and out of, this is not the place. There are several offices and they all have a different vibe. A few are stuck in a rut and don't believe in training or innovating. Opportunities for growth also vary by office.

    Advice to Management

Embrace training and look for ways to create more of team environment in all offices.

I worked at Frank N. Magid Associates, Inc full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Magid has a nice family-owned business. The CEO is a genuinely caring and nice person. The compensation is extremely fair, and overall the upper management is great.

    Cons

Unfortunately, Magid is divided up into a few different offices. Each office is run by a Vice President (aside from the HQ in Minneapolis) and they determine the culture, structure, and rules at each location. This often results in confusion, disagreement between the management at each office, and a lack of standard ethical guidelines. Management is not offered any formal training, or given a set of standards that they are held accountable to. This often results in an unprofessional and intimidating working environment. In addition to this, Magid has little internal structure among the offices. Career growth is only obtained by working at Magid for a set amount of time. There is little to no difference between the duties of an associate and a director. This structure has created an abundance of Directors and Vice Presidents, and caused much hostility among those in these roles. Magid particularly struggles with work-life balance. One office in particular requires employees to notify everyone on the team if they will be away from their computer for more than two hours. This includes after business hours. The team is also required to respond to e-mails or HeyTell (a walkie-talkie phone application) at all times. Lastly, Management at Magid really struggles with creating a safe learning environment. Often times management openly discusses the "incompetencies" of a new employee with the existing employees. There is little to no room for error at Magid. By making a mistake employees are immediately reprimanded, often times very publicly.

    Advice to Management

Overall, I would suggest formally creating and setting ethical standards that everyone in the company is held accountable to. By doing so, I believe Magid will reduce their turnover rate dramatically.

    Pros

The people that work at Magid are all very bright and are among the best at what they do. Magid has the capabilities to conduct all kinds of qualitative and quantitative research projects.

    Cons

Since they have been in business for decades, they believe they can charge a much higher fee than competing research companies. If you are Managing Director charged with doing new business development, it is often difficult to close a new research account because of the fierce competitive landscape. There are so many research companies who are very willing to charge less for the same product.

    Advice to Management

Consider being a bit more flexible in pricing projects.

    Pros

Its a great opportunity to work with and learn from some incredibly smart people.Work can be both independent and collaborative.

    Cons

Internal communication and management communication leave much to be desired. There is no real formal training and sometimes few introductions. People working in different industries may as well be working at different companies because there isn't a usable, centralized source of information about projects, guidelines, etc.

    Advice to Management

A company can be to 'flat.' Have more transparency with titles and organization and a more uniform introduction for new employees.
