Pros
The non-management personnel were, at the time, the best part of working there. Also, at the time, the industry and the employer seemed stable and reliable.
Cons
The management is clueless, rude, divisive, and derogatory to the employees. Everyone not in management is clearly treated as second class citizens, even to the point of having checks issued from a different employer corporation, and having different, smaller 'appreciation' events for the employee base.
Also, though unrelated, the company is moving jobs to India as fast as they can, which I think further illustrates the value they place in their employees.
Advice to Senior Management
Take care of your employees, and do everything you can to make them feel involved in the business. Show that you value their ideas and suggestions and put your money where your mouth is. Stop stifling your most valuable assets, the ones that make your business a reality, and allow them to bloom.
Weed out the divisive, derogatory, and under qualified elements in your middle management, and gain employee faith by replacing from within.
Pros
Work environment is fair and family. The work life balance is taken care with utmost respect to individual.
Cons
Salary and recognizing competence. Communicating with employee is other aspect.

Great place to start. Need to focus more on training and salary.

Salary, benefits, too many lifers. Can't seem to find a good way to move out of current position. There are too many internal networks that are unfortunately hard-wired into the company. Too many people are part of the friends and family network. Management is not transparent at all. Need to come up with a way for all levels of employees to take part in the success of the company, not just the most senior of senior management. Definitely a place where you can build up the resume and then jump ship and get a better job somewhere else.

Try and remember what it was like when you first started working.

Not a whole lot of growth opportunities on a professional level. Compensation was a little under average or near median at best.

It was relatively good pay for a pretty simple job. I was finished work by 5 every day.
Cons
Having to deal with angry shareholders on a daily basis. Receiving emails that our positions would be outsourced in the near future. The extremely low morale in the office. Very poor management. I am just talking about the St. Petersburg office, so management be more competent elsewhere.
Advice to Senior Management
Communicate better with staff. Be open and honest, don't just send out an email with an asterisk next to people's names whose skills were to be outsourced in the near future. Talk with staff to learn why morale is so low and make some positive changes. Don't treat employees like they are children; respect them and they will respect you.
Pros
The health benefits and if you have kids they are "family friendly" and are sympathetic if you need to leave to take care of sick children.
Cons
There aren't many opportunities for advancement or for salary increases. If you are in one of the offices other than CA then the highest you can hope to get is to middle management. When subject matter experts leave no one is trained to replace them which leaves other employees confused when they need specific information. Also Management doesn't respect it's employees, micromanages, and works them long hours and doesn't seem to care if they quit.

Pay your employees what they deserve, they may work harder, and not be disgruntled.

Understand and appreciate the jobs of those you manage. Share your vision for your respective areas, do not hide them.

Job for life, if you are mediocre you can get by very easily with out being canned

Disjointed company, rivalry between divisions, poor pay, clueless management, lip service to initiatives

Pay more, hire better people, if somebody has been at the firm for their working life dont see that as an endorsement of your family values ask yourself why they cant get another job. Cut the dead wood

Personally, it's location, no over time, and they encourage taking time off.
Cons
It's a large gobal company, managed like it's a thousand smaller companies all rolled up under one parent company. So, communication is spotty. The pay is ok, but certainly a bit low. but llike I said above, there's no overtime in my area, benefits are good and they encourage taking vacations.

Nice people overall and the culture is somewhat blasé, in my department anyway. The benefits are nice and the company does try to help wherever they can as far as work/life balance.
Cons
Outsourcing isn't fun. Attitudes since "Global-sourcing" started have gone from laid back and fun oriented to downright apathetic. Many people who fit the new job roles left the company due to lack of communication by management about how the "new model" would work or is supposed to work. The only people left are those who are angry if they have to work after five or are in it for school or certifications to be paid for by the company so they can move on to better, higher paying jobs.

Communicate from the top down. Seems like all information stops at middle management. Promote better communication and move out of the 1980’s and into the present (or at least the 90’s) with software. Recent “big deal” was ability to video conference globally… sad… so sad…
