Pros
The people are great and I loved working on the teams and getting to know people. And very good benefits in terms of health care, stock program, dental, and pet insurance. There is also a cafe on site which is a nice place to get breakfast.
Cons
Low starting salary and raises the barely keep up with inflations. Some areas in the company are more bloated with people and veterns also so it can be difficult for some people to move up in the ranks. There is also a constant change of workflow is unnecessary and can be confusing and hurt productivity.
Advice to Senior Management
Allow more mobility for people to try new areas in the company or expand their overall knowledge or other departments.
Pros
The non-management personnel were, at the time, the best part of working there. Also, at the time, the industry and the employer seemed stable and reliable.
Cons
The management is clueless, rude, divisive, and derogatory to the employees. Everyone not in management is clearly treated as second class citizens, even to the point of having checks issued from a different employer corporation, and having different, smaller 'appreciation' events for the employee base.
Also, though unrelated, the company is moving jobs to India as fast as they can, which I think further illustrates the value they place in their employees.
Advice to Senior Management
Take care of your employees, and do everything you can to make them feel involved in the business. Show that you value their ideas and suggestions and put your money where your mouth is. Stop stifling your most valuable assets, the ones that make your business a reality, and allow them to bloom.
Weed out the divisive, derogatory, and under qualified elements in your middle management, and gain employee faith by replacing from within.
Pros
At it's peak, several years ago, Franklin Templeton was a great place to work, with good mid-level management and decent compensation.
Cons
Since they have made the choice to off-shore the bulk of the maintenance work, the consideration for employee morale has disappeared.
Advice to Senior Management
Franklin needs to consider their U.S. employees, and remember that they are the backbone of the company. They need to reinstate some of the social activities that they used to have. They need to consider the state of the economy when they calculate salary increases and bonuses. The assets under management are bigger than ever, but the compensation is almost frozen in place.
