    Pros

The best benefit package. Very intelligent, diverse group of people. Company has great social events to show appreciation to its employees. There is a professional growth opportunity for anyone who can see it. Laid back environment. Open door policy that allows you to discuss your concerns at any management level.

    Cons

As in any non profit, grant funded- the pay is low compared to industry. the distribution of work load and the deadlines could be sometimes frustrating, but probably unavoidable due to the specifics of the organization.

    Advice to Management

Keep up changing the culture, creating transparent communication. pay attention to your talents before they are gone. Stop letting slackers get away with their low performance.

If you are new to the industry, this might be the place for you. If you have experience, run the other way.

    Pros

The benefits are amazing. Probably some of the best in the area. Most of the people are great to work with.

    Cons

Nepotism abounds. There are no consequences for laziness, poor work ethic or just downright incompetence. However, if you work hard and put in a lot of hours there is no recognition and you are expected to pick up the slack of others. Pay is meager for the hours you are expected to work. Be sure that you like working long into the night and weekends. There isn't a lot of effort into retaining employees. Everyone is expendable (ESPECIALLY if you make the poor decision to disagree with upper management). Huge revolving door policy. Most people work for only a few years before running out of the door.

    Advice to Management

Please stop playing politics and invest in your employees. They are not worker bees there to do your every command on a whim. And please try to be more professional and not flaunt your indiscretions.

    Pros

Interesting work, interesting people, great place to acquire new skills. Team members are helpful and supportive. Nice building with large windows: a plus when locked up in the lab.

    Cons

VERY little pay, especially compared to the work expected to be done. Upper management is a miss. In fact, the entire center is mismanaged. Every so often mass lay-offs occur do to loss of funding (as CMB is a non-profit).

    Advice to Management

Mainly upper management needs to stop turning a blind eye and start dealing with the skeletons in the closets. Also, manage the budget better so that people can keep their jobs.

    Pros

Good place for entry level employees to gain experience. Laid back, non-corporate work environment. Benefits like healthcare, retirement, etc are the best I've ever seen.

    Cons

Salary is much lower than other companies (although it is a non-profit organization). Not many opportunities for career growth.

    Advice to Management

Job titles are an issue. My job title makes it seem like I'm entry level when I have ~8yrs industry experience.

  6. Politically hot climate.

    Pros

Benefits are fantastic, esp. the retirement package. Some middle managers are really great people. All of the people are extremely intelligent. Decent place to work before recent changes in leadership.

    Cons

Low pay by industrial standards. Promotions are rarely given unless you are in the "political crowd" even if you've done outstanding work. Upper management has a few people who know absolutely nothing about the technology platform they are leading. Strict structure of communication which restricts and filters the flow of information.

    Advice to Management

No advice to give expect for the upper management. Watch your upper managers very very closely to see if the results they share are actually honest or self serving.
