Great team and environment, but sometimes slow due to the kind of projects.

Research Intern (Former Employee)
Leipzig (Germany)

I worked at Fraunhofer Gesellschaft as an intern for less than a year

Pros-Great Team Environment
-Support for individual projects
-Approachable management

Cons-Government and EU projects cause long delays in projects and things never happen as quick as you might think they could
- There is little push for outstanding our hard work. People do work hard and do their job, but don't expect to be pushed or challenged beyond just completing your task in a satisfactory manner

Advice to Senior ManagementTry to find ways to keep interns busy while some projects are on hold. Try to get them engaged in individual projects with guidance by the department head and keep up the good atmosphere.

Interesting opportunities, but work environment is heavily dependend on institute & department

Research Scientist (Current Employee)
Karlsruhe, Baden-Wurttemberg (Germany)

I have been working at Fraunhofer Gesellschaft full-time for more than 3 years

ProsAs a researcher at Fraunhofer you have the freedom to reasearch and try out new technologies.

ConsIn the field of Computer Science a lot of innovation comes from the industry. In several areas the big American companies (Google, Facebook,...) are a step ahead. Also, from my experience there is a lack of young talented software engineers; some departments have an average employee age above 50 yr.

Internship

Research Fellow (Former Employee)
Munich (Germany)

I worked at Fraunhofer Gesellschaft as an intern for less than a year

ProsIndependent research was encouraged and a chance to write many research papers. Good funds available if one wants to travel for conferences. Strong encouragement from the senior management if you are a high performer.

ConsI found it hard to turn my internship offer to fulltime employment. And this was the case with most students. Most students including me got much better job offers in the industry but we wanted to stick along for the environment it provided.

Advice to Senior ManagementTry recruting students as fulltime employee after the internship offers.

Yes, I would recommend this company to a friend – I'm optimistic about the outlook for this company
