I have been working at Fred Meyer part-time

    Pros

Best thing as a parcel is you got to talk to different persons everyday.

    Cons

Of course, this is a retail job. So what can we expect with the pay. It would be minimum wage and not worth the work efforts. There are so many things to do especially those busy hours.

I worked at Fred Meyer part-time (less than an year)

    Pros

Working for Fred Meyer was interesting. They had good room for growth within the company and they had good support for their employees. The management teams were incredibly enthusiastic about working for Fred Meyer, and emphasized the possibility of a lifetime career with the company. It's a good job if you are in high school or college, as their hours are flexible and they're conscientious of students' schedules.

    Cons

There were no benefits, pay was minimum wage, and the work environment was rough. A lack of windows, florescent lighting, and having to walk 24/7 for the job, wasn't fabulous. I had originally applied for a cashier position and I got the job. However, they didn't realize I wasn't 18 at the time, until after they hired me. You have to be 18 years of age to go through the cashier training program. After they realized they had made a huge mistake, they immediately offered me a position in the apparel department, which I took. I left after 2 months, after I was given a better job offer.

I worked at Fred Meyer full-time

    Pros

Health Benefits are great, compensation is higher than average for retail, but you have to work long and hard to gain momentum on the raise ladder. If you prove yourself as reliable and honest, they will promote you faster. Just show up on time, get the job done better and faster than anyone else, take on more work than your usual job would entail, and be an honest employee. Through hard work I was able to get a lot of perks and a M-F schedule, which is unheard of.

    Cons

Really bad management in some areas. There are a ton of power hungry people and they will walk all over you and the upper management will do nothing about it. My own manager for a few years was extremely passive aggressive. Would never tell you if you're doing something correct or incorrect. But would definitely gossip about you behind your back and you would find out eventually. Gossip is a BIG BIG BIG thing here. Everyone knows everything about everyone. Keep to yourself and if you don't want your personal life floating around as entertainment, then keep your mouth shut. I've seen many reputations ruined because management believe gossip, especially coming from other managers.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Listen to your employees and stop gossiping about other employees and customers.

I worked at Fred Meyer full-time (less than an year)

    Pros

Paid every week, good hours, good benefits, open door policy

    Cons

Poor Management, Poor Staffing, VERY HIGH stress, no time for family/ friends,
once you become an associate of this company, say goodbye to your sanity & social life.
i was told by ALL management that i was the fastest most accurate worker
(dont be what i was other wise they WILL take advantage of you).
My ex-boss that was transferred to another store was told by the NEWLY PROMOTED MANAGER,
"You dont have to get your hands dirty and touch that, your not on night crew anymore"

    THAT PISSED ME OFF

You are treated like a workhorse....NOT a person

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

HIRE A MANAGER that actually WANTS a job/ career and takes it seriously!
since ive been there 7 months, 10 people have VOLUNTARILY QUIT (including myself), due to POOR MANAGEMENT
& management NOT listening to their employess

I worked at Fred Meyer part-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Regular raises based on hours worked, flexible hours for those in school, advancement opportunities, union for cashier/grocery side, medical insurance offered for working 100 hours a month (may have changed since I left).

    Cons

CUSTOMERS!!!!!!!! I've worked in other retail stores, and never have I experienced such horrendous customers than I did when grocery cashiering. Some co-worker drama.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I know the customer is "always right", but it would be nice to have management stand up for their employees when they are just following procedures.
