I worked at Fred Meyer full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great people, fun work area, definitely loved Alaska

    Cons

Management sucks, don't listen to good advice, lots of bad customers

    Advice to Management

Stop bringing personal business into work relationships

I worked at Fred Meyer (More than a year)

    Pros

Its usually a fast-paced environment and a lot of work with customers. Fred Meyer gives you the opportunities to take care of the customer's needs.

    Cons

There is poor communication between management and associates. Staffing numbers are too low. As it is in most retail, the turnover is relatively high. Training happens a lot.

    Advice to Management

Provide more hours to the departments so there can be adequate coverage for customer needs as well as staffing needs.

I worked at Fred Meyer part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Worked for good people for the most part. Enjoyed my co-workers and the discounts were nice. Easy to advance if you want to.

    Cons

Dress code inconsistencies, managers expecting too much regardless of your schedule or if anything was wrong with you. Even if you worked hard.

    Advice to Management

Improve dress code. Although they are pretty flexible, code is constantly changing and things that were previously okay became not okay based on management. Should be concrete regardless.

I have been working at Fred Meyer full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Well staffed. 1 hour lunches and am only working every fourth weekend. Decent benefits and a good 401k plan. Overall a good company

    Cons

Computer system not very user friendly and takes time to get used to. A lot of micro management from corporate but probably similar to other chains

    Advice to Management

Should have a system to send dea forms Already made out so we don't have to hand fill them in. Less ordering errors that way

    Pros

Nice co workers, decent management. Higher pay than most retail companies.

    Cons

Customers will one day break you. Constant policy changes. Competition from online retailers.

    Advice to Management

Get rid of lazy associates. Work life balance needs to improve.

I have been working at Fred Meyer (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Great values. This company works hard to treat their people right.

    Cons

Very fast paced and sometimes management doesn't take the time to figure out what's really going right or wrong.

    Advice to Management

You may think you're balancing taking care of people while working towards goals, but you're too focused on the goals and not seeing that you're people are very frustrated.

I have been working at Fred Meyer part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

You're part of a union and get decent pay. Opportunities to move up or transfer to different departments.

    Cons

Don't know if this is everywhere but the deli has a high turn over and poor staffing. It has made it hard for me to build good relationships with my head department manager and co workers because of the stress. Even though my contract is part time I am always work 30+ hours.

I have been working at Fred Meyer full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

At store level this company offers good benefits and possibilities for advancement. Most non-managers are union while mangers are not. Both offering advantages. Mangers tend to work at least 45hrs/wk.

    Cons

Pay is good but when you hit the ceiling there is little room to advance without going salary, which is sometimes a pay cut from hourly management. Advancement is highly based on who you know and how you play their game. Holidays are terrible.

    Advice to Management

Be consistent. Policy changes every three months? "Make it right" for customers up to $20 but associates can still get fired for a loss under $1? Show your employees the same care you show your customers.

I have been working at Fred Meyer part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Was hired as a part time 12-hour worker, but often get above 20 hours in a week. The same is expected out of everyone(no special rules). It's a grocery store so you don't have to go anywhere for lunch.

    Cons

This position has a low starting wage. Short breaks. Checks come in every friday(could be a pro). Sometimes it is required to work later than your original shift.
