Current Employee – been working at Fred Meyer Stores part-time for more than 3 years
Pros – Some nice co-workers, paid vacations, holidays and personal days...after 6 months, great employee discount on Kroger brand items, 20% apparel, 15% home, 10% electronics, etc. Health care after 6 months
Cons – You're treated as just a number, management doesn't know what they're doing, terrible employee drama
Advice to Senior Management – If you'd like your employees to stay, maybe pay them enough to live comfortably.
No, I would not recommend this company to a friend

Former Employee – worked at Fred Meyer Stores full-time for more than 10 years
Pros – The benefits are pretty good, pay wasn't too bad either. Paid holidays and vacations are nice.
Cons – The two main managers that I worked under both sucked. They treated their people with such disrespect. It was very hard to go to work everyday.
Advice to Senior Management – Treat employees with respect, they are just trying to do their job.

Current Employee – been working at Fred Meyer Stores part-time for less than a year
Pros – They give you opportunities to switch to other departments and earn raises.
Cons – It's a union so you have to pay to join. Apparel is a lot of work.
Advice to Senior Management – Be open/patient to showing new comers how to do things.
Yes, I would recommend this company to a friend – I'm optimistic about the outlook for this company

Pros – Easy to get hired, any idiot can get work there. Discounts are great. Easy to move up if you get in good with a manager. Health benefits are decent. Have the ability to apply all over the country. Can finally utilize a website from home to enter in requested time off. At my store, there are some really superb leaders and coworkers with fantastic attitudes, great communication skills, and a great ability to work hard, even while being abused by upper management. Our store director is pretty amazing too.
Cons – You could have an amazing manager: understanding, down to earth, respectable, great decision maker, hard worker, great disposition and personality and WHAM!...that manager gets a better job elsewhere and you get someone who is nothing like that manager and have to adjust to their decision making and behaviors. Basically, your work environment depends if you have good management, but not only that, depends if the people they hire are actually competent. Too many people work there that cause drama, have horrible personalities, and crappy work ethics.
To top it off, you have to wait six months for health benefits, but you have to wait THREE years to get dental???!!! Makes no sense to me. Union is probably necessary with Kroger stores, but man, they sure take a nice chunk.
The music....OH GAWD...the constant crappy music is enough to put you in a sour mood. I have to say, I HATE the company who sells this crap. Every store I go to, it's the same contemporary pop crap....lowest common denominator garbage. AAAAAHHHH!
Advice to Senior Management – You bring a positive and understanding experience to the table, you will get the same in return.

Current Employee – been working at Fred Meyer Stores full-time for more than 3 years
Pros – This company has relatively good benefits and a store discount, access to sample sales and additional discount services but be advised that they low ball pay.
Cons – They treat long-term employees as disposable and new employees even worse. They are a struggling company in terms of financial and technology. Not a good employer to work for unless you need a disposable job
Advice to Senior Management – Establish a web presence and re-evaluate who your customers really are.

Former Employee – worked at Fred Meyer Stores part-time for less than a year
Pros – Friendly people to work with. Accommodating with school hours.
Cons – could have used much more training and information for the job. It was hard to do all the work in the time allotted. You cut so much fruit and then have to get it all packed up. If you cut too much of one thing, you have to cut up more of something else.. next thing you know you have run out of time and have left over fruit that you need to do something with. Each day is different so it's hard to have a set idea of what to do each day.
