Pros
Great benefits. Great pay, if you get journeyman.
Cons
No set schedules. Doesn't allow for having a family
Advice to Senior Management
Listen to your leads
Pros
Most or all of the positions are unionized and you're treated really well by the management. Fun place to work and feels like I'm doing something good on a day-to-day basis.
Cons
Working in customer service is tough and sometimes the policies that are set in place by the store as far as returns, etc. are subject to change based on how customers act.
Advice to Senior Management
Listen to employees on what works or what doesn't, they're the ones who are there to see if it does, so take our opinion into account.
Pros
Pay is great compared to similar jobs in the vicinity, being a union member is comforting
Cons
Many in store management don't take the time to be on the floor and "know" their employees.. they base a lot on word of mouth of other associates which can obviously turn out very poorly when multiple people are up for the same promotion.
Pros
A place to work and have co-worker friends that support each other.
Cons
Arrogant and self serving managment people. There main interest seams to be in promoting themselves no matter who they step on to get there.
No cost of living increases. I am payed only 0.40 cents an hour than I was nearly a decade ago. With the cost of insurance, taxes etc. I take home less money now, while the company braggs to us on a regular basis how our hard work keeps increasing there millions in profits. We are the ones making them there profits, not the managers, PIC's etc.. From my experience most of them are very lazy.
Continual cuts in employees and work hours puts more stress and work on all other employees and we are expected to maintain the work load and managments expectations no matter how insignificate they are. I contiuually here managment people, from store directors to PIC's, talking down customers. Seams to be in complete opposition to the "Customer First" "policy" they talk to us about. Fred Meyer for myself and the majority of my co-workers that I speak with, is a very stressfull place to work.
Advice to Senior Management
Pay us a living wage! Treat us as intelligent human beings!
Pros
Fred Meyer has great opportunities for sales or customer service experience individuals. I would definitely recommend others to work there.
Cons
Downsides of working at Fred Meyer are having to work during the holidays. Other than that there are no other downsides to working at Fred Meyer.
Advice to Senior Management
Leaders at Fred Meyers need to listen to employees' input and give constructive feedback. Employees like to be heard and listened to.
Pros
It is a job and there is advancement opportunities. The best part is the customers.
Cons
I have no home life. I am often asked to come in on my day off. Most days I work 15 hour days and I am on salary so I don't get any overtime or holiday pay. The store director is never happy and I very seldom get praise for all my hard work. They give you this speech like they care about their employees and their families and it is a total lie. If I leave for a lunch break it is always way past six hours and I am yelled at if I leave the building to run to grab a bite. I am expected to work through lunches and carry the phone with me at all times. Worst of all they just expect you know things when they do not train you properly. It is bleeding me dry. The health insurance is a joke. In order to have a good health plan you must submit your personal medical tests to the employer. You employer has access to your cholestrol level, blood sugar, blood pressure, weight, BMI and mental health status. If you don't allow the employer to have these than you booted off into a horrible health plan with a high deductible that no one can afford.
Advice to Senior Management
If employees are happy and treated with respect then they work happy and are more productive individuals. You can't expect one person to do the work of six. If a department is short staffed than don't expect the managers to be able to pick up all the slack. A good employer should know that a balance of work and home life needs to exist. All employees need to feel valued and compensated for their efforts.
Pros
employees are down to earth
management cares about their job and their employees
communication between departments is superb
great college job
Cons
the pay could be higher
hours are very limited and can be restrictive to lifestyle
job can be very repetitive
Advice to Senior Management
every two months rotate employees throughout different departments
regularly give employees more and more responsibilities
monitor employees and ensure thorough work is performed
Pros
Employee discount, fast paced, convenient locations
Cons
Just a number to them, long hours
Advice to Senior Management
More employee recognition
Pros
1. Job security
2. Co-workers are like family
3. Grocery pay scale
4. Employee discount
5. Associate Appreciation celebration
6. Good customer comment cards
Cons
1. You are only guaranteed 10 hours off between shifts. So if you have to drive an hour and a half to the store you work at you get no sleep.
2. Your schedule changes every week.
3. They are getting rid of full time positions.
4. They know who they want to promote when they post the job. If it's not you don't bother to apply.
5. Pay raises take a very long time.
6. Bad work ethic is left to linger and even manage departments
Advice to Senior Management
Get rid of the lazy people who expect others to do their work for them. Stop moving managers from store to store, every time we get a new manager (every 2 years or so) we as workers are expected to adapt as they rearrange everything. Pay people what their time is worth. Hard worker's should make more than the lazy ones. Performance based raises!!
Pros
The pay is ok compared to other stores, but not a lot for all the work expected
close to my home
like the discounts
good insurance
Cons
customers can be harsh and rude and very messy
not enough staff to deal with all the customers (which can explain their rudeness)
back up checking (this means leaving your job to go cover a checkstand)
not enough staff...yeah I cant say this enough
there seems to be a lot of game playing and backstabbing by managment
Advice to Senior Management
hire more people and stop cutting the hours. stop asking us to do more and more with less people. Stop freaking out when regionals are going to visit, If we had enough people to do the work then we wouldnt have to rush around pretending that it always looks this perfect for the visits.
hire more checkers and do away with back up
