I have been working at Fred's

    Pros

I really enjoy the atmosphere and family feel of the store I work in. Great regulars and great group of individuals that I work with. We are small in number but together we get a lot accomplished.

    Cons

Replenishment in the stores needs to be controlled by management at store level. We need to be able to order only what we need and what sells. Not have a computer decide for us and send us the same item that is full on the shelf and has been full on the shelf for weeks.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Store level ordering, and updated POS system.

    I worked at Fred's

    Pros

Always able to assist a customer with a question. Easy and friendly managers Steve Tomlinson and Felicia Vinson, helped you with anything you didn't understand. Great way to meet new people

    Cons

the cons of this job was clocking out. I really enjoyed myself while being employed at this company. I only wished I was there a lot longer than the six weeks. I hate that the company went out of business in the Macon area.

    I worked at Fred's part-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Will hire you with no experience, so great for your first job! Easy enough hours for a student.
    You get an employee discount!

    Cons

Will hire with no experience, so horrible if you expect to actually get something done!
The employee discount is only once a year... and only applies to certain items....
Trucks are always unorganized, and yes I mean always.
I have never met a manager who actually cared. (more of a personal experience, I know)
Plan-o-grams. I would say more, but I would start screaming.
There seems to be a pervading culture of theft....

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Learn to care. Learn to listen. Learn some common sense.
And to corporate: Learn your stores! Learn what they actually need, not what your little computer program says they SHOULD need. Consider pre-palletizing your freight, you don't even have to go as far as organizing it! Pre-palletization would cut down on store associate down time, cut down on exhaustion, result in a drastic increase in productivity, and allow for trucks to be packed more efficiently, and be able to run a more efficient route.

    I worked at Fred's

    Pros

Great insurance plans, met alot of good people employees, customers, etc. of course its a paycheck.

    Cons

Forced to work well over the normal hours and it takes years to get a raise no matter your position and the policies are so sketchy they allow District Managers to make up policies as they go, Corporate office is a bunch of the owners family members and golf buddies no real structure. Be sure to ask how many more stores are gonna close in the next six months.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Hire some District Managers that will actually treat employees how the company portrays not like some dog tied to a tree in your backyards, I hope your company gets what it deserves!

Freds could be a good company to work for if they could get their stuff together. They do not treat employees equally.

    I worked at Fred's full-time

    Pros

The insurance benefits are decent. The companies values are good on paper but the follow through depends on who you are and who you know.

    Cons

Working short-handed because the Assistant Managers are sent to other stores to work. Life to work balance is horrid. Management at corporate level seems to be highly disorganized resulting in stress at the store level.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get it in writing! Wear body armor, especially on you back.

    I worked at Fred's

    Pros

I really can not think of any. It was a horrible experience from beginning to end.

    Cons

The pay was very poor, considering all they ask of the employees. The management was sexist and extremely rude. One time the manager actually told me I should mop because, " I should be good at because, I was a woman and that was what women are good for." I would not recommend this job to anyone.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Hire new management.
