Pros
Great atmosphere great managers they make sure you get paid and take care of the business side of things. Company is debt free and will be around for years to come.
Cons
Too many hours required of management pay for employees is too low to keep quality workers and the load required of them is a lot with mostly no help to do it with
Advice to Senior Management
Find a way to make it where freds can provide a good financial base for its employees and a good work life balance for store management and the company will be on the right track
Pros
I generally like the products. The company has come a long way in the quality of the products and the presentation.
Cons
Too many chiefs. Each seemingly with a different agenda. Most workers make minimum wage only with no raises. Employee discount only three days a year.
Advice to Senior Management
It's bad enough to be paid nothing, but we have to pay the same as the customers? At least discount food.
Pros
have insurance other than that not a lot
Cons
You are always lied to by management and other ones higher up in the company. When someone higher than you gives their notice that they are leaving they are begged to stay. I have been with the company 2 years and it is a dead end place to work.
Advice to Senior Management
DONT LIE TO YOUR EMPLOYEES!!
Pros
Good company to work for, The higher up people look out for you. They are like all companys
they have do some bad things and they do good things for the people that work for them.
Customers were great, some good and bad
Cons
Manager, no experience, Aggressive lanauge, Take to many smoke breaks,Not honest
Advice to Senior Management
Need to check on some of your managers and not the employees,
Pros
Managers tell you what needs to be done and when it needs to be done.
Flexible work hours.
Good job when currently in high school or in college.
Don't have to work late into the night like some other stores.
Cons
Can get busy at times and have no help when you need it.
Communication between cashiers and stockers when working together.
Not enough pay for someone that works hard to get things done.
Dealing with lazy slackers, if they don't work, management expects you to cover for their slack.
Being heavily relied on to get the job done.
Advice to Senior Management
I think Fred's is a good place to work for. I think the workers should be told rather or not they are doing a good job and if they are getting tasks done on time and properly. Don't rely so heavily on just one person all the time to get things done when they are not the only one there working. Other than that I like where I work and the people I work with.
Pros
The customers are great!! Besides that not much else.
Cons
You will get no training!! You will work 60+ hours a week. Your truck's are full of stuff you don't need and your expected to work it out to the floor anyway. When your add starts you will not have featured items and neither will any store around you. Amount of work that is expected to be done and labor hours provided don't add up. Most of your labor is spent on truck day and day after, then rest of week it's you and a cashier. Registers are old and need managers key for just about everything...Returns, miskey's, Layaway's, Price adjusts, etc. so your constantly being called up to the front making it impossible to get things done. All this = high manager turnover!!
Advice to Senior Management
First train you Store Managers. Making them work freight for two weeks in another person's store doesn't prepare them for success. Second streamline the product selection. Store's carry too much Lawn and Garden product, Metal Wall Art, Comforters, Toys, Appliances and Furniture. Third keep customers out of the warehouse. Putting the bathrooms back there leads to shrink! Finally build bigger warehouses in your stores. Some stores have small warehouses and get filled every week by the truck and it doesn't give you anyplace for all the packup's.
Pros
The customers made it worth it
Cons
Not appreciated for a great job
Advice to Senior Management
Appreciate great work
Pros
Great stable company with a lot of growth
Cons
the pay was not that great
Advice to Senior Management
be persistent and continue to call and check on your application
Pros
Allowed time off for family emergency
Not micromanaged, was pretty much left to do my job
Lax about breaks and flexible if you were running late
Decent scheduling
Cons
No direction by management
No teamwork
Very little to do, hard to be busy at times
Poor communication
Did not feel useful
Advice to Senior Management
This is only one store, I realize others may be different. My advice to management would be to be more organized. I have no complaints about how I personally was treated by management.
Pros
Very lenient about time off.
Cons
Individual/Family owned store, which sucked. No insurance, no raises, no benefits of any kind and no discounts. Store was always cluttered.
