Diverse environment, a lot of training opportunities, high expectations, interesting an challenging work, flexible work schedules and good work/life balance

    Cons

Limited growth options, management does not always want to take into account feedback from employees, some people are overloaded with work while others sit idle

    Pros

Good people, great benefits, good work life balance, good compensation. It is a place that you can go to and stay there forever if you are so inclined.

    Cons

lots of process. "lots of this is the way we have been doing it for 30 years why should we change?". Very hierarchical. Pseudo Government

    Advice to Management

Simplify processes. Move to a more pay for performance mentality. Offer volunteer retirement to some of the people that have been there for 25+ years...

  3. Helpful (1)

Freddie Mac is a great company to work for but has limited growth opportunity.

    Pros

Flexible work arrangements allow people to work from home 2 days a week and the company also reimburse partially for public commute.

    Cons

Limited to no growth opportunity. Freddie Mac is not a growing company and all the middle management positions are already filled.

    Advice to Management

Company's goal to be competitive in future market place can only be achieved if middle management is fully onboard. Most of the Freddie Mac middle management are Freddie veterans and it doesn't seem like they want to change.

    Pros

Large company benefits - cafeteria, on-site healthcare, on-site gym, covered parking, charitable giving match, flexible working arrangements

    Cons

Bureaucracy, hierarchy, no autonomy, exceedingly risk averse, difficult to get anything done. IT is especially awful.

    Advice to Management

    Empower staff.

    Pros

The salary and flexible work arrangements are very good. There are a lot of very dedicated employees at Freddie Mac who are extremely diligent in their work.

    Cons

The company is making a lot of cuts to flatten the organizational structure. This is causing a lot of unease among employees.

    Advice to Management

Management should be aware of the unease the current cuts are causing among employees. Management should also be commended for implementing the existing flexible work arrangement program.

    Pros

I thoroughly enjoyed what I was doing at Freddie Mac.

    Cons

The favoritism with some manager's and director's affects other staff members....especially when it is so obvious. Credit is not given fairly to other staff members, especially if they are not in "favor" with the director. It is very hard to hear 1 person being recognized for doing something that was accomplished by other co-workers at a dept meeting.

    Advice to Management

Have faith in your team....and don't put down employee's in manager dept meetings as it always leeks out to the dept, and eventually to the person being talked about. Management is SUPPOSE to set an example, not create discord among the staff. Freddie Mac has a great culture & values policy, it's just a shame management doesn't use it.

    Pros

Very flexible. Great benefits and great people to work with.

    Cons

Too many re-orgs. Upper management should talk to the employees more before making big changes.

    Pros

Flexible schedule (including working from home)
    Excellent facilities and work-life balance
A lot of opportunities for lateral movement

    Cons

    Very risk averse
    Heavily dependent on consultants
    Heavily dependent on proprietary technologies
Push innovation for the sake of innovation

    Advice to Management

Try moving to open source technologies and hire more full-time employees. Consultants take their knowledge with them and they are not thinking about the company beyond the end of the contract (and sometimes not even that!)
