I worked at Freddie Mac full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Freddie Mac's strength is the knowledge, talent and passion of its core people. If you want to work on challenging problems with big data, it offers lots of opportunity. The salary is good at senior levels.

    Cons

Benefits are scaling back. The company is horribly bureaucratic. The executive leadership is territorial, lacks courage, and kowtows to the regulator's caprice.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Grow conviction, lead the business, and realize the effects of your current practices on the franchise.

    Negative Outlook

I worked at Freddie Mac as a contractor for more than a year

    Pros

Loads of opportunities if you are looking to make a difference.

    Cons

Organization volatility has created a culture focused on political survival rather than performance.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I have been working at Freddie Mac full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

    Excellent Work Life Balance
Good facilities (excellent cafeteria, gym, etc.)

    Cons

    Limited upward mobility (tenured managers/directors)
Competitive pay by industry standard but little to no raise once hired
    Long term uncertainty
Highly political environment (depends on your division, but seems unusually common compared to other places..)

I worked at Freddie Mac full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Generally pleasant co-workers to work with. Nice facilities. Good pay and benefits.

    Cons

Management is confused and aimless. The threat of layoffs is constant and never-ending, so employees stay stressed.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get congress to give you some framework for direction. The constant start/stop and changing of directions is bad for morale. Management needs to keep constant watch over IT projects. I'm not suggesting micromanaging per se, but get yourselves fully aware of everything going on in a project -- micro-monitor.
