Current Employee - Instructional Designer in Inwood, IA

    Pros

I enjoy working from home, but want to get involved with a team to innovate new ways to deliver quality training to employees.

    Cons

The virtual work environment is less personal than working with someone face to face.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Set a good example, mentor new freelancers, have set times during the day to be completely "un-plugged".

    Freelance Editor

    Current Employee - Anonymous Employee
    Current Employee - Anonymous Employee

    Pros

It's great to work for yourself but expect stress-producing dry spells and major fluctuations in income. Obviously, no boss - yet you still have clients, of course. Set your own schedule.

    Cons

Plan for the worst in terms of income and be prepared to be your own cheerleader day after day. This is harder than it sounds and it can be tiresome being an outlier.
