Make sure you go in with a degree that directly relates to your career goal because if you don't have one, you'll never get to where you want to go
Advice to Senior Management
First, ditch the Sierrita schedule. There is positively no value in making people live this way, and it is unsafe. Second, college degrees are a necessary step in professional development but, when it comes to promoting people who have years of experience, I don't think it is necessary to exclude them because they lack an education.

Senior management should investigate small clicks. Opportunities are given on a buddy system basis

Compensate the employees more frequently and in higher amounts other than just 3% annual raises, which covers just normal inflation.

great pay, fulfilling job, learned much from peers. Definitely a challenging atmosphere. Was hired entry level, never having experience in this field

If you are not in the "loop" when it comes time for layoffs, promotions, select crews or other 'perks' you are out of luck. its who you know there, not what you know.
Advice to Senior Management
Corporate, not senior management at the mine, should evaluate some of the people that are in senior management. Recommend a 'shake up' every few years, transferring to other departments/locations. While consistency is usually a good thing, in this department it created clicks that only hindered overall safe operations.
Pros
Plenty of engineering projects around mine site to gain tons of work experience!
Awesome co-workers!
The other interns were plenty of fun to hang out with and it turned out to be a really fun summer!
Great fishing in the area and the rivers are fun to spend a weekend at!
Housing was paid for. Full time employees get really cheap company subsidized housing.
Overall, the company treats their employees really well, especially if you're on the production side of things!

Small town. Finding things to do can be hard at times. Phoenix is about 4 hrs away, which is where I spent most of my weekends.
Nearest town with a Walmart or any decent shopping is an hour away.
Very hard to get any overtime hours, especially since most college students are trying to work as much as possible to save up over the summer. (This is a definite positive for full-time employees!)

The money and housing accommodations are excellent.

The business is based on production. When things break down unplanned or scheduling isn't realistic, management will be in your face. I was an intern that had nothing to do with any of that, but the stressed out management vented on me as well. If you have a degree, people will probably not respect you. Most employees are older folks from nearby middle of nowhere towns, didn't go to college, and have mining in their family bloodline. Naturally they dislike college grads/interns who come in doing analytical (in office working on computer vs. brawn) jobs. Oh and beware, its and small town filled with miners, gossip is a big thing.

Anger management please. Some forget to be humane to others when stressed.

Pay given there is really gud wen compared to some other companies of same mining field. You will be promoted soon when u work there

The place where i worked is really remote and no recreational events to enjoy. I felt lonely when I worked there

Everyting looks good with regard to the management and I enjoyed my time at FMI. Good luck with all your efforts
Pros
Freeport has some of the most incredible machinery and technology, more advanced than their competitors. Some of the HR functions need some works, but overall they try to keep improving their committment to manpower development.
Cons
The remote sites creates a very strong social control, news travell very fast, even the most private ones.
Advice to Senior Management
The management should regulate some of the social controls, especially those tend to human rights violation. Some gossips made are harmful to people's human rights and the people built the gossips should be responsible for hurting and violating others human rights.
Pros
You get to take on exciting important projects, projects that save the company hundreds of thousands of dollars per year.
My supervisor facilitated presentations to management which helped get the project I worked on passed.
Very flexible work schedule - I worked anywhere from 4 hr to 14 hr days and from 4 -10 days straight.
Very saftey conscious environment. Daily safety meetings

Can be difficult to get overtime in an hourly position
60 hr/week expectations for engineers
It is desired that employees relocate every 2 years
There are very unhappy people in laboratory settings

Make sure to encourage your employees and reward people for their success. Consider giving more overtime to operators.
