    I worked at Freescale Semiconductor as a contractor (more than an year)

    Pros

    The atmosphere is excellent, the team managers like to help each new employee, the sense of team group is huge, there is little pressure on getting projects finished. They take ethics very seriously.

    Cons

    Few job openings throughout the year. The company oscillates with the market, therefore some job positions can be closed depending on the situation

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Freescale should open more sites/job opportunities in developing countries, focus on open source, since they are ahead in the microcontroller area, they could develop more solutions for embedded systems.

    I worked at Freescale Semiconductor full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

    Good interpersonal relationship among the team members, providing a good day-by-day work environment. Good place to learn a lot on IC design. Good life/work balance, and probably the only place in Brazil to seriously develop ICs. If you are lucky to be under one of the conscious managers (there are only a few), the amount of work is also very reasonable.

    Cons

    Career plan sounds like a joke, you should leave the country to continue evolving, but local management doesn't facilitate it (in some cases even put obstacles to it). Managers are selected based on personal relationships and the amount of time you have in the company, instead of technical or even management skills. Because of that, the teams' respect level for the managers isn't high, and that's awful for the company.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Select better managers, be clear on reviewing career plans and provide options regarding this.

    I have been working at Freescale Semiconductor full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

    Have been working at freescale for almost 14 years. Great company, challenging projects, nice working environment. They respect your personal life, vacations taken when you wish. Good support coming from management is a plus. Benefits are also very nice.

    Cons

    Few people on some groups. The amount of working is an issue sometimes. Internal career growth could be better creating more positions. Travelling very restricted.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    I guess management performs well most of the time. Improving career growth would be a good idea. Travelling is very restricted. Meeting coworkers in person makes the work relationship a lot better.

    Pros

    Excellent environment for technical development, with interesting and challenging projects and access to up-to-date tools and methods. Fair Compensation policies and consideration for balancing work vs. family life. Innovation is stimulated at all levels. Career Path is clear.

    Cons

    Some Senior Leadership decisions seem disconnected to Freescale´s best interest in the long-term. Private-Equity period has created uncomfortable debt situation.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Value Freescale technical heritage and built upon it.

    I have been working at Freescale Semiconductor full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

    Very experienced people. Nice company culture. Incentives for innovation thinking. Decent salary and perks.

    Cons

    High workload. Not so many opportunities for progressing in your career, hierarchically speaking. Layoffs a bit too frequent.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Management should bring in more experienced people to the teams. Recently, fresh outs mostly the ones being hired.

    Pros

    The local co-workers are very friendly

    Cons

    No effective trainings on o tools and projects;
    Performance Management is useless;
    The company target salary is the market value, but there isn't other semiconductors companies around. The is no difference between work here or in any other industry around.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    To be more honest and clear during communications;
    Do not buy a new job car when the company reports bad results;

    I have been working at Freescale Semiconductor

    Pros

    Freescale is a good company to start your carrier, it possible to learn the basics about design. The information and self trainings are kind available and you can progress a little bit. But forget any thing else, once you entry as a beginner you will never progress in eng carrier for a very long time.

    Cons

    There are many bad point to work at Freescale: The management treat all engineers as stupid low level workers, they never told the true, his administration is not transparent. The planning is a joke, and there are many people doing nothing and many people over loaded.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Please, change your way to conduce your team, other wise you will lose them.

    I have been working at Freescale Semiconductor

    Pros

    It is a big company with (until now) enough resources to complete my duties, pays in accordance with market (besides the fact that In Brazil we do not have many design houses).

    Cons

    Freescale is suffering with his huge debt, the only thing that we heard since 2003 is cost reduction. Does not matter what you do, we need to reduce costs and promotions are very rare.
    Senior management tells lies, HR is a joke, they always announce a cut in benefits as a good thing for us, they think that we are stupids. I wish to be treated as an intelligent man.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Does not matter if you him is your old college friend, people must be evaluated by results and not friendship.
