    Pros

The relationships you form with patients and staff enrich their lives and yours.

    Cons

Constant "New Initiatives" without dropping any old duties. Everything that comes down from the top is "mandatory" right this second, and it creates incredible stress.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The people you promote to the top have no management skills and are honestly no help at all. The great people end up "stepping down" which is a horrible loss to you and the employees.

    Pros

The patients that you work with and take care of on a daily basis is very rewarding. You are making their quality of life better by providing them their life saving treatment. Job security is always present in the medical field BC there is always someone how needs some form of medical treatment.

    Cons

Issues with some staff who are difficult to work with. Especially when you have a clinical manager who doesn't do anything BC they are afraid of the staff member as well. Sometimes the clinic acts like high schoolers in the petty things they do to make you have a bad day or in the way they treat you. Raises are annually but don't count on much of a raise. Sometimes it can be only 4 cents.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

For the staff that work their butts off and showup everyday and volunteer to help more if needed show them that you appreciate it. Sometimes it feels like its not noticed or appreciated especially for some staff who have never called in sick or anything in the 3 years they have been with the company.

Former Contractor - Anonymous Contractor in Waltham, MA

I worked at Fresenius Medical Care - North America as a contractor (more than a year)

    Pros

Coworkers with heart and compassion who are willing to go through growing pains and explain questions/concerns
Nice facility, free parking, okay pay

    Cons

No training - sink or swim mentality, tens of work quizzes supposedly to reinforce concepts are overwrought and tediously unengaging, excessively high complaint/report volumes with unreasonable time constraints, no room for growth or promotion, 80% temp workers who are constantly discarded like trash, management is condescending/rude and will throw you under the bus for their mistakes to make themselves look good--constant power trips, no accountability for poor operating procedures and outdated database systems, awful commute, routinely boring work

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Learn to respect employee efforts and time spent in cleaning up your messes and dealing with archaic reporting practices that do not stand up to current FDA standards. Understand that training needs to be interactive/collaborative and not a million slides on a screen. The here today, gone tomorrow practices with employee retention will gurantee your consistent inability to meet expectations when employees are not secure. Pay people what they deserve for the exorbitant amount of work done.

    Pros

The only Pro is the patients.

    Cons

Managers do not stand by their nurses. Pile on more and more work with no compensation. NEVER hear "great job," "your doing well," or a thank you for all you do.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Pay attention to your employees instead of the dollar signs in your pockets.

    Pros

    A paycheck. and a job.

    Cons

Horrible benefits. Far below the industry norm for IT salaries. They hold back medical benefits for 60 days from your hire date. No sick leave, you are required to use your PTO, aka vacation time. HR is useless, operates like they are in the 1970's. No room for negotiation on benefits or salary. It's their way or the highway. Lucky if you can get a manager that speaks English, let alone understands it. IT management only capable of understanding windows, forget about any Unix knowledge. Even high level software management doesn't know how their software or products work, forget about trying to bring any new technology in. Steer clear of this disaster.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get rid of your 1970's based HR department, they're destroying your chances of hiring good people. Dump the geriatrics that are here for retirement, they're holding you back. Require a good understanding of English, as well as speaking it, and at least some technology knowledge for your management.

I have been working at Fresenius Medical Care - North America full-time (less than a year)

    Pros

My manager seemed to be helpful at first but her hands were tied.

    Cons

    - Unpredictable schedules with 13-14 hour shifts. For example, 3 day consecutive work days from 5:30am-7:45pm with a nice 30 minute break but then scarce breaks afterwards.
    - When presented with an offer, lies will be presented but not followed through.
    - People complain that hours, PTO and preceptor hours would be missing from their paychecks.
    - If training and go over 40 hours, FMCNA will not pay for overages.
    - Assistance with paying school for a 2 year contract of continued work.
    - Training, although lengthy will not be the best.
    - UNPAID 2 hour travel to training.
    - FMCNA will franticly promote carpooling to "SAVE" the company $$ on mileage. It came out of a manager's mouth.
    - Will give you a hard time to pay for mileage, might not get it in the end.
    - Extra drama on the side.
    - Stressful mainly because of employees
    - Physically challenging.
    - Pay is not as generous as others state.
    - Micromanaging
    - Very little incentives

    Pros

average benefits; clinic managers are aren't totally clueless

    Cons

What gets passed down from upper management to middle management to lower management is cost vs. profit; turnover rates for clinical staff are high; clinic managers are forced to put day to day budget goals above everything else; reactive, not proactive, towards employees.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Nothing. Your profit first culture will eventually lead your company to poor clinical outcomes.
